Minimum Poundage for 90M

Hi all,
does anyone know at what poundage does your accuracy really begin to suffer shooting at 90m? i know the bigger the better but how much of a difference are we talking?

Cool Power

I know people who shoot at MB level with a 32lbs bow but there draw length is 32 1/2" this then equates to 44lbs on there fingers.
I shoot with 40lbs limbs @28" I believe that some limbs are measured at 26 3/4", I have a draw length of 30" and shoot a 68" bow with this set up. I have know trouble putting ACE's on the boss @90m. I used to shoot with 36lbs limbs and acc's with this set up I used to get there but the arows were a bit heavy and my consistancy was not as good, saying that if I had ACE's at the time I would not have had the same problems. I used KG Apex limbs in both cases with a 18 strand fast flight string with the 36lbs limbs I had just under 40lbs on my fingers and an arrow speed of 196fps with the 40lbs limbs I have 45 lbs on my fingers and an arrow speed of 218fps using ACE's. As you can see these limbs are very quick.
What I am trying to say is
it is not only limbs that count here:
Draw length is very important I believe you will need 38lbs on you fingers with a quality string and limbs to be effective at 90m
The Bow has to be the right length to suit your draw length IE if your draw length is between 28 -30" you need a 68" bow 26-28 66" bow ect if you bow is to long it will not cast an arrow far enough
hope this helps
Nick

Accuracy suffers pretty significantly as you go down in weight, on a windy day. On a nice still day, it doesn't matter nearly so much. My best scores for 90 aren't much different now (38#) as they were at 32#, but I don't drift nearly as much in the wind (20mph winds, aiming in black at 70m, whereas before I'd be somewhere nearly on the next boss!)

I've only shot 90m once in practice. With 32# limbs (which I think have been would in slightly) and about 39-40# on my fingers, and using Carbon Impact arrow with EP16 vanes, I ended up aiming about 2 foot above the target. I managed to get one scoring arrow (a solid 2) out of about 2 dozen.

My sigh was also as far down as it could go, and sight extension pulled in as close as pos.

Probably with better quality limbs, I would be able to reach a lot easier.

It also depends on the arrow, some alloys will not be accurate at 90m. A heavy point will help in wind drift. Any limb at 36# or over should get carbon/alloy arrows to score.

It really depends what kind of level you're at as to whether it's limiting you or not.

last year i had about 34lbs on my fingers with triples, and was shooting Bowman scores at 90 by the end of the season. This season i'm shooting 40lbs on my fingers and the scores haven't greatly increased, with my best only going up some 20 or so points.

There are so many variables, that, provided you can reach the target with a sightmark (even with an inverted sight!) then you can achieve a reasonable level of accuracy. An increase in poundage *THAT YOU CAN SHOOT COMFORTABLY* will obviously help, but not as much as improving form overall.

I managed to get a 30inch Jazz arrow 175 yards with 45 pounds at my fingers. (Don’t ask)

The Navs I now use reach 100 yds (same set up) with no problems.
I could easily pull a few more pounds, but why bother.

I'm pulling 41 lbs on my fingers with my setup, and comfortably reaching 100yds.
The sight is very near the bottom of it's travel but I don't have to move it in.
It works for me.

Just come over from the TRAD side, iam using one of my daughters old bows which is a ELAN with BORDER Premier Carbon limbs 66" 32lbs.Ive measured the poundage on fingers at 34lbs with riser wound up.The arrows are 28" ace 570 and i guess the set up is all wrong for me but 90m sight mark is ok and ive reached BM standard .After the 65lb longbow it does feel like a wet piece of string.
