Hoyt GM weight adjusting

I've got to the stage where if possible I want to increase the limb weight a little on my Hoyt Gold Medallist.

Needless to say the manual diagrams and description bear little resemblance to what I see on the riser !

On the rear facing side of the riser I have a screw thread connected to a 'receiver' in the limb pocket which looks as though it can be adjusted a small amount in the pocket which would then alter the angle of the limb.

Is this what I need to be adjusting ? and if so which direction would increase/decrease the weight ?

Don't fancy changing anything till I know it's the correct thing to be touching !

Thanks in advance

I can't help you with the mechanism (though it sounds like you're on the right track - look out for locking screws, though).

As to the direction:
To make a limb heavier, you want to put more initial bend into it, so you adjust the angle so that the base of the limb moves closer to the riser (towards the archer, if they were holding the bow to shoot). People describe this as "inwards" as in "wind your limbs in".
But it only feels like "in" when you're doing it if you have the limb side facing you and not the belly, where you can actually see the adjusting bolt...

Hope that helps...

Dont forget to remove the locking screw if there is one, then wind the allen key clockwise (if you are looking at the riser if you were shooting it) this should move the pocket towards you.

Count the number of turns and do the same to the other pocket, then DONT FORGET TO CHECK AND RE SET THE TILLER, dont just rely on the same number of turns.

Finally you will need to check both your bracing height and your nocking point. They may have moved but not much.

Dont be frightened about doing it its easier than you think.

Right. Have the riser facing away from you (grip facing you) so you can see the bolts etc.

The weight adjustment system is composed of a average looking nut that is inside a silver thread (which looks like it could be adjusted with a really big screwdriver).

Remove this (from memory, it's a 3/16" allen key). It should come all the way out easily, because it's just a locking nut. Beneath this, there is a screw which takes an allen key, and this is what moves the receiver in the limb pocket.

Turning this clockwise will bring the receiver closer to you, and heavier poundage. Anticlockwise moves it further away and lower poundage. Set as you like, then replace the locking nut and you're away!
