Is it legal to carry a strung recurve bow....

...in one's car? I'd hate to get done for having an offensive weapon or something. Police checkpoints are a regular feature over here in Northern Ireland. Anyone know for sure?

Thanks

Stephen

RE: Is it legal to carry a strung recurve bow....

A bow is only an offensive weapon if you intend to use it as such. These days they are not weapons but sports equipment. Might be a different story if you wandered the local High Street with an arrow nocked and ready to go, but carrying it in your car, from home to shoot and back, shouldn't cause a problem.

If it wasn't legal, think of all those compound bows that would have to be taken down for transit.

Well I live in Northern Ireland myself and i have carried by equipment up in the car but the string has not been on, several other of the archers in my club do this too, and its always good 2 have ur GNAS card with u as well just incase. i havent been stopped, so long as u dont intend 2 use it out on the street or somthing i think that it would b alright.
