| Same answer as ever.... try them and see (borrow some). The short rods give you more stability and depending on the type, you can alter their setting to give you better grouping and a better feel of the bow. ![]()

| Putting a v-bar and side rods on has several effects. Firstly, they give more inertia in all three axes of rotation. This will help to damp out wobbles in all directions. Secondly, they provide a balancing effect like a trapeze artist using a pole to keep himself upright, so they may reduce any tendency to cant the bow. Thirdly, they move the centre of gravity down and towards you. This will also reduce the tendency to cant the bow, may (or may not) make the bow more steady on aim, and will (usually) increase the liveliness of the bow after the shot, making it jump more from your hand and rotate. This can also cause the bow to kick up more after the shot though, in which case use an extender to move the CoG further forward. The aim should be to get the bow moving very flatly on release. They don't always work, though. I gave up on mine about 18 months ago because they were making no difference to my scores (and I don't like the very lively after-shot reaction they give), but I'm thinking of giving them another try.

| Can you nab anyone elses for a quick try? On the other hand if you don't want to shell out a load of cash on something you might not get on with - get some cheapies. The most basic Cartel short rods are pretty good in my experience (as are K&K). You should be able to put together an extender, vbar and short rod setup for around £35. |

| If you don't like the lower C of G then you can try a single top rod as well.

| Whether you need shorts rods or not will depend on how your bow behaves when shot. Mine went forward and then twisted to the left and a v-bar and short rods have helped this rotation. The only answer is to borrow some and try them. Talking of which I must give mine back to their owner and get my own!

| I find that they help after you get used to the weight and the bows reaction. Different types feel and perform differently as do the angles of the v-bar. |

| its done..... Decided to go for the Merlin rods after all..... I wanted to get the matching set, so didn't see the point in getting cheapies just now, only to get the active balance ones later. Ordered the following: 2 x 9" short rods 1 x 5" extender This will look great with my Active Balance long rod & merlin quick release v-bar. Hopefully all will get first proper outing at Escoco.
