The best advice I received on that was to make it a 2 stage trigger - visual as well as audible. You don't release on <click>, you release on <click> plus <sight on the gold>. Still not a conscious decision, but a more sensible reflex!

That way lies madness. Think of it this way - if there isn't enough rest under the arrow, what do you think happens when the clicker drops and you loose the arrow?? Same goes for any issues you might have with draw hand/fingers causing the arrow to drop off. You need to fix the cause, not the symptom IMO.

Setting up on the clicker improved my shot process no end, and I'd recommend it. Many people used to do this, then stopped when the American/Korean misinformation started coming through about how we needed to focus on the target at all times, and setting up on the clicker made you stop the draw... what a great way to slow down the development of the opposition

Murray, I normally agree 100% with what you say on this and other forums, but in this instance (and it's just my opinion) I think that it is vital that the whole of your concentration should be focussed on the gold during the shot process. Even when I am totally focussed on the target I can see, hear and feel the clicker move.

To add weight to the setting up on the clicker thing, anybody read Steve Hallard's section of "Shooting Stars"? He advocates constantly moving eyes between clicker and sighting and if you manage to see him on the rare occasions he attends tournaments these days it appears that he still opperates this system. As arguably the best (male) recurve archer (maybe Roy Matthews excepted) Britain has yet produced I like to think he knows what he is talking about.

That all depends on where setup ends and shot process begins doesn't it Don't get me wrong, there are many koreans (they are the best in the world afetr all) whos eyes never leave the target, yet there are others who noticeably set up on the point.

It's much more important, IMO, that at the point of *execution*, your focus is entirely on where you will put the arrow, that you are entirely committed to making the shot, that your line is good and in control of the process. What you do up to that point, is up to the individual to find for themselves, but repeatibility is the key

Friday evening !!!! Had a good lesson from Dennis Folkard at our club RLSAS. Stand up straight, correct stance, head to target, pull arrow 3" to set, bring up site to gold, draw to clicker, arm up, keep arm up to follow through, watch arrow hit gold, I shot the cross on the gold !!!!!! never done that before. Its quite surprising what you can forget if sometimes you don,nt go back to the basics. The effect was I had to move clicker back 1/2" due to correct stance and draw, and the shot felt better. I have watched Naomi Folkard shoot many many times at our club, and still didn,t get the message from watching her style which is very similar and very regular. With this advice my scores should get better LOL. My adult son who still shoots without a clicker won our County Camps handicap section with a 549 The winning score was 570. It will be very interesting to watch his scores when his draw length settles and he uses a clicker.
