Limbs still safe to use?

Hi all

Yesterday when packing my bow up, almost in the dark, I took the string off and the bottom limb just fell off. Its a Sebastian Flute with ILF and whats happened is that the screw that goes through the limb into the knobbly bit that slides into the riser has gone. It has often worked loose before but I've always noticed in time and tightened it. Will it still be safe to use without that screw in? I'm assuming it will as it cant have been under any tension if it rattled loose and fell out and as long as the actual bolt on the back stays tight and in place. Havent tried to string it up again since though.

Whats your thoughts?

if the part of the limb that actually hold the limb in place is missing then I would say that it is not safe to use anymore.

With the limb not locked into place apart from being able to fall out it will move around when you are drawing and releasing.

Even if it doesn't fly out of the bow on release your shots wil not be right and you are putting huge stresses on the slotted end of the limb.

Just taken the limb out to check in daylight and it's unusable The screw from the front holds in the little round bit on the other side thats spring loaded. That would explain how it fell out of the socket when I took the string off. With the string on theres tension in all the right places and it shot fine. Ah well, will have to wait until wednesday when the shop opens to ring up and see if I can get a spare.

I'm also an impatient chap I rang CBA Nottingham as I figured you wouldnt be available til wednesday and theyre sending me one out. Had a good conversation with a lady there as we both tried to describe "knobbly bits", "springy bits" and "clicky bits" trying to make sure we knew what the other was talking about

I swear I'm cursed at the moment. As my regular bow is out of action for a few days I strung up my old KAP Prostyle trainer bow which I still have. Came up to full draw and CRUNCH! The bottom limb is now even easier to store as it is in 2 pieces and I was almost a eunuch!

There's still the wifes bow I could practice my draw with. However with my current luck should I risk it? If I break that I'll be in trouble and its a tad cold on a night to be sleeping in the garage.

Glad it's not just me!
Same thing happened while I was shooting on Saturday, Using Winstorm limbs which are about 6 weeks old. Rang my dealer who was very matter of fact and said it happened all the time. Checked with another local dealer who'd never seen it before.
I lost the brass ring and point so hoping one of them can find me spares.
