Compare 66inch limbs to 68inch limbs

Once again to the archers think-tank, to beg of your experience and findings!

Ok - so I'm using 68in @40lbs limbs, 39lbs (true) on the fingers, drawing 26inches of arrow to the button center - arrow length 27&1/4inches...and I want better 'cast'...more transfer of energy into the arrow...flatter trajectory...better sightmarks for 90m or 100 yards.
If I understand it correctly I really could be using 66inch limbs - giving a lower brace height/longer powerstroke ( which is my next equipment experiment)
Question:
assuming all other things were to stay the same (dw/dl, limb model, nock height etc - but BH is less of course)....
What poundage limbs do I require????
(i'd really like to avoid trying several different limbs if the answer is relatively obvious...time is short and life is cruel etc)

40lbs- even though they may 'feel' heavier in a shorter limb?
or will I get away with 38lbs limbs, remembering the short drawlength - will the extra bit of powerstroke more than make up for the lower 'punch'...AND give me better distance sightmarks??
Whats your experience of going to shorter limbs - please share cheers!
Best add that I currently NEED 39lbs on the fingers to bareshaft...would quite like to keep using my X10's

Speak to a coach

If someone in your club has 40lb or 42lb short limbs and they will let you try them on your riser then spend the time trying them. Do a walkback if you can get outdoors and see how they feel. Shorter limbs will give you a better cast but if you do not feel comfortable with them is there any point using them just to get a few yards more and being able to keep the same arrows.

There are a lot of experienced coaches on this site who I know will flood this post with lots of helpfull info for you.

40 lbs will still be 40lbs so irrespective of how it feels there is no greater musculature needed to draw and shoot 68/40 or 66/40 so get the 40's. my actual advice would be get a short riser which will work better still ie it will make 66 42lbs and i have never met anyone who had to wind down a short riser. anyway if you are still struggling for a set of limbs send me a message by 29/12 and i will source you a set (or a short riser for that)

Everyone at my club is a monster sized- gorilla armed, longfaced titan (shooting longer/lower weight limbs...or a little girl.
Like to think that I'm at least somewhere in between...
and as for coaches - we have three...but none as well versed as those on AI...great beginner coaches...but...and I don't think they'll say I'm wrong .

All things being equal (limb design, poundage, tune, arrow etc.), dropping to 66in will probably only give you about 1 foot per second in arrow speed.

Ahhh - now Im not fully conversant with the full range of physi-math here...are you saying John that there is no other benefit of going to 66 inches?...because 1 fps sounds ' negligible' to me

- I'm hoping you'll say that there'll be more energy imparted to the arrow because of a longer powerstroke with 66's, and that while speed will only increase about 1fps ...that there is some other magic that will happen to increase/better my sightmark??? AFAIK there is no other magic...is there?
