Question Limb adjustment - lbs

Hi,

When a limb has a stated poundage on it at 28" draw and you put them into a bow that has limb bolt adjustment, would this measurement of lbs have been taken with the bolts adjusted out or in or somewhere in between? Or does it not work like that?

I know the important figure is to measure what you have on your fingers anyway, I was just wondering!

Cheers,

Beats

Different manufacturers use different approaches, and I vaguely recall different approaches used by same manufcturer for different models.

So you'd need the manual that came with your bow to find out, or to ask at the shop where you bought. Or post the make/model here, as someone else with the same bow may know!

Hoyt risers are made so you get the marked limb weight at the middle point of the adjustment range on the bolts, so with a set of 38lb limbs you can get between 36 and 40lb give or take (at 28in of course).

However, they are designed to do with with Hoyt limbs, so this may vary for other makes of limb.

For what it's worth, my Border limbs seem to come in at the marked weight in Hoyt risers with bolts set to the middle range. They've also weighed up at the marked weight at the bottom end of adjustment on PSE risers, which suggests that the geometry of the two brands of riser are different.

My W&W limbs (in both hoyt & w&w risers) give me the marked weight at the lowest setting, so there you have it! Another reason to try before you buy if you can.

AFAIK
Hoyt limbs are weighed in the middle of their range
W&W, Samick and the rest of the world weigh at the bottom of the adjustment range.

Though it was rumoured that Stylist limbs were weighed at the top end of their range (anyone know?).

The actual amount of adjustment you get depends on the riser. 10% is normally quoted, but I get a bit more than that on my Winact (old version).

And don't forget that the actual weight might be +- 1lb from the marked weight - that's an allowed amount of error...

So a pair of "38lb" limbs with the bolts wound all the way out might be more or less than 38 @ 28, depending on: actual limb weight, the amount of adjustment the riser supports, the make of the limbs...

I think Stylist weigh their limbs at a different draw length to everyone else. They also adjust downwards rather than upwards using a packer system.

Stylist limbs are measured at 28" from the button and adjust downwards with packers.

okay, so they're weighed at the top end and are lighter than the markings suggest. Sheesh!
