Flecthing Glue removal from ACC arrows

Hi,

Just a quick one but what is the best way to remove Fletch-tite glue from ACC shafts? Is there any problems with using meths to remove glue from carbon?

Any help woould be appreciated.

Regards

Torcrayth

Would be a bit slow but absolutely safe for the carbon, I prefer using Acetone which is alot harsher stuff but works quicker but needs to be careful when using it with the arrow.

Isopropyl alcohol also known as isopropanol is the one most recommend. It is quick; it evaporates and does not leave any residue. Other substances can leave an oily residue which can cause adhesion problems when re-fletching.

Sold at Maplins, e-bay search for IPA

Is that safe to use on all carbon arrows as well??? I have heard some folk say that come chemicals can affect the carbon weave.

Cheers

Never had a problem with IPA. It evoprates quick and does not penetrate. A straw boss will cause more damage.

Not particularly well no. I use this: Label Remover , works a treat.

I strip other glues off with a Zip Strip and then rub down with IPA.

Cool

I always used to boil the kettle and leave the fletchings and shaft to soak for half an hour in very hot water. this made the glue a little more soft and easier to remove.
I have done this quite a few times with no problems to the shafts.

Agreed, the Zip Strip is the best mechanical way of removing traces of glue without damaging the shaft. I also use IPA in a high concentration (93%) if there are problem spots, otherwise I just use the 30% stuff to get any grease off the shaft.
