An interesting question.
I feel that it is possible to shoot high scores without a clicker. The problem would be, I suspect, getting that good by just shooting.
In one way you can say the clicker tells you when you have drawn the bow the same amount as last time; every time. You could go one step further and say it takes away the need to decide when to release.
Getting a consistent draw length can be learnt without a clicker, though it may be just a little less accurate.
Having to decide when to release can upset things so the clicker can remove that upset; even if it adds another.
In learning to use the clicker, if done well, the archer is informed of occasions when the alignment etc, is becoming wayward. Without the clicker, the archer may just carry on, unaware of the variations in posture/ alignment.
In other words, as you learn to use the clicker, you should be learning to keep alignment and posture in place. It does, in a way, give feedback like a coach could, but on every shot.
In short, I think the high scores would be possible, but the learning process involved would be slower and require a huge amount of extra effort and discipline.

Ditch the clicker

If I had been able to shoot most of last summer I would easily have gained the other two rounds/scores I needed for my Bowman class without ever using a clicker.
I also know I can gain my MB without one be it this summer or 2009 ( I just am not in a rush it happens when it happens).

Just look at how short a time clickers have been around and the scores archers achieved without them.

If your technique is solid then you should be drawing to the same anchor points every shot if so then your draw length will be the same every shot, the only variable to this is if you creep forward inconsistantly each shot, and I have seen and heard of archers doing that even with a clicker.
There is absolutely no reason why someone could not shoot GMB and above without a clicker also think you are on the shooting line 1 point ahead of the second place person who is using a clicker and you are not, just how much do you think that could physc them out?

I find it very hard to shoot without a clicker now. The other day I was borrowing someones longer arrows that I couldnt draw through the clicker and when I came to anchor I would creep forward a bit. The clicker helps me keep back tension right until the moment i loose.
