Best footwear, shoes for archers

been everywhere.....every sports shop in all the highstreets...all over the i'net... scanned videos for what the pro's use........ Inconclusive!

If a nicely gradiented sole, to help put your balance slightly towards your toes is the optimum...without the toes pointing upwards like a running shoe...and gives support and stability to your stance.....

What are you using?
And how much store do you put by having a comfortable/archery-serviceable shoe?

I have a tendency to always buy and use Reeboks.
'Airwalk' ....Skateboarderboy shoes have great soles- but are too soft and have no gradient.
I cant wear Doctor Martens with shorts in the Summer without constantly giggling and the bow slips off when I stand it on my foot.

Best shoe for archery?

Indoors I wear white Nike Airforce hightops.
Outdoors in the wet or mud I wear Lowa mountain GTX Goretex lined leather boots.
Outdoors in the dry I wear a pair of Timberland leather and fabric goretex lined lightweight boots. It can always rain.
I never wear wellington boots.

If you look on youtube 2004 olympics you will see they are all wearing knee lenth Jack boots. According to a club member this is the best sort of foot ware to have ............. until that was I pointed out this very same thing.

I ware martell trainers and I have great balance with these and minimal wobble but at 70 sqid a go a bit pricey and there is cheeper alternatives.

im a big fanboi of this brand so forgive me -

cant beat merrells !

they are a bit pricy but INCREDIBLY well made and hard wearing and INCREDIBLY comfortable - the soles and uppers of the shoes are very supportive and the lacing system they use provides a neat little 'hook' that holds your lower limb tip in place when resting on your foot !

currently for indoors i wear these -

for winter outdoors i have the older version of these (5 years old and still rock solid) -

ready for the summer outdoors ive just bought a pair of these -

easily available online but id say head to blacks or millets if theres one near you and try some on - you wont be sorry

I wear these from CAT outdoors:

these from New Balance indoors:

and if you're worried about your bow limb slipping off your foot whilst you're resting it you could try one of these:

which clay shooters use to prevent getting "8" shaped rings on their footwear.

If you want good contact with the ground ie; little padding under foot so that any unwanted movement of balance points on the foot can be felt- try ADISTAR SHOT PUTT SHOES about £75.00 as recomended by KS Lee. but they will be very hard on your feet for a full days shooting!

Indoors I am using Karrimors and have found them to very comfortable. Sports Direct usually have these on offer I think I paid about £12. The mens sizes are currently being sold for about £15. Outdoors I have a pair of Gortex boots. It's probadly a good idea to spend as much as you can afford especially with the UK weather. You want something that is totally waterproof and extremely comfortable after a full weekends shooting.

how handy, i happen to have a pair of shot shoes somewhere at the back of my cupboard.

very sturdy indeed - but they do tend to come in various shades of 'look at me NOW' (mine are bright blue yellow and white). i have never found them too hard on my feet but then my feet have become battle hardened by the nhs.

id definately recommend finding somewhere that sells them so you can try them out if want to go down this route because they are designed to be quite fitted and the sizing of the different brands do vary somewhat (badly fitting ones could be torture in sure). i have no idea where to try as the little independant shop i used to frequent has long since been swallowed up by a giant vulture (i just googled and i could only find a couple of places online!).

Outdoors a pair of Etonic Drylite golf shoes.

Leather and breathable, keep your feet dry and comfortable all day and the cleats on the bottom stop your feet slipping on wet ground and being a proper shoe I have found it improves posture.

Indoors: trainers with a thin flat sole and bit of a heel not running trainers as the soles are curved. Was tempted this year to use my sons skateboard trainers very comfortable good sole for good balance but stupidly expensive to replace the ones he uses.
