The Archer

Ten or fifteen years ago my sister had given me a framed copy of a poem, the title of which was I believe the Archer.

Having moved several times within that time period it appears that I have lost it.
I have searched internet sites and have not been able to find it doing a title search.

The beginning starts out saying (not a direct quote but close) “Archery is not a sport that is mastered by pure physical strength.” And ends in something like “for the archer is trying to connect with the inner self.”

If anyone can direct me to a path where I can find this poem I would really appreciate it.

Is this near enough?
"The mastery of archery is complete mental control over physical tecnique. The feeling of oneness with the bow, the arrow and the target- the gentle flow of the subconcious towards the precise instant of perfection and beyond. Ten thousand arrows mentally placed in the target and shot one at a time, calmly and deliberately, builds capabilities beyond all personal expectations"

Not a poem exactly but says it all!

Thanks, says it nicely but may contain too many multiple syllable works for my intended audience. I wanted to post it at my desk for the other engineers to ponder prior to their golf outings

If you swap the archery terms for golf terms or for that matter any other sport terms, it will apply to any sport!

Hi there,

not sure about the poem you were looking for, but perhaps the one I've just made up will do?

The archer stood astride the line his eyes were fixed and still,
From concentration on his face 'twas clear he had a will

With bow in hand and arrow fletched, he knocked the shaft upon a string
And with his strength he stretched that bow, then let the arrow fling

Straight to the target then it flew and settled in the gold
All his arrows flew this way, for 'Bowman' he was bold

The moral of this stort is to train yourself to win
Then all your arrows will fly true and Clover you'll be in.

All the best in finding the correct one!

Malcolm

This is getting a bit interesting. Let the Poet in each make rhythmic marks on the page for all to enjoy
