Im puzzled what makes a sight too advanced and what options will never get made use of ? Also why dont you think angled Vbars are any good ? surely that is down to personal prefrence

look for good second hand gear with ILF.
i took me 8 years to get what i have now, an Aerotec with Agulla ultra limbs.
even now over here people are saying the Aerotec is preferable to the Helix, (people will have different views)
so essentially older gear is still useable and servicable, after all each riser is still a bit of a bent stick and a string, focus on your form and you will be ok, the bow does not shoot the arrrow, you do!
just because its new does not make it better, dont get caught up in the old its brand new so it has to be an improvement on the last model scenario.

yes and they are rare to get here hence i settled for the Aerotec,

basicly second hand gear is a much better investment until you can build up for that specific combination of limbs and riser,
i now have a riser that will last me for years and can now try out several sets of different limbs until i find a set that suits me.( happy with the Agulla limbs at the moment but the hoyt G3 are so much smoother)

Sorry to jump on and hijack this thread but I'm a newbie, will hopefully be starting my beginner's course within the next month. Would a Hoyt Nexus be a suitable riser for a beginner? I'm planning to shoot bare bow, but with something that would leave me the option to add sights and stabilisers if neccesary.

Cheers

If you really want to buy some thing at that level and I am not saying it's a good idea then there is a GM riser on Ebay at the moment but be quick it goes at 17.02 on the 26.03 08. That with a pair of basic limbs and a hoyt supa rest will be more than you need for the beginers course and will see you OK for the rest of the season. It's at 22 pounds at the moment, don't go bid mad on it I don't think it's worth more than thirty five pounds.

For me get your riser right, comfortable in your hand at full draw
after trying a few in the shop i went for the W&W Winstar II
i think most shops do a starter kit, this was the kit i was supplied with
KAP Challenger limbs (68, 32lb) after trying a few to get the right weight on my fingers. cartel longrod, cartel 2000 sight (falls apart often) cartel button, hunter rest, easton Jazz arrows (but upgraded to XX75's)

i've ungraded my kit as cash flow allowed lol
afg V bar with cartel side rods (second hand from club member)
arco rest
Beiter Button (from Ebay)
Samick Athlete Limbs (70", 36lb) Ardvark great service
fast flight string
Beiter longrod (second hand from club member)

and planning on another trip to Ardvark next week for
new sight (Shibuya Ultima Recurve - Carbon )
acc arrows

then i will have the prefect setup for me

and don't forget to get a good Tab, try a few to get the right fit and feel!
until i got my Cavalier Elite tab, i didn't think a tab mattered that much
but it does

Hi Ghost Dog,

The Nexus is on my shortlist but it is the most expensive on the list along with Eclipse and Sebastian Flute.

From the replies I have received, my own research and talking to a few archers, I have prepared a list to 'discuss' with a suitable shop..... possibly a shop, who seem to get the most stars and acolades in these interchanges.

Good advice to talk with your coach, but in a few weeks. I have still 3 lessons to go, but will tryy and wait until completed before diving in.

Good luck with your course.

Malcolm

P.S. Not sure which Thread you jumped into as I seem to get allsorts sent to me that are nor really my Threads.... apologies to others if this was not for me.

After my beginners course, I was lent a club bow for some 2 months. then i bought my Winact riser, some 36#KAP limbs, an Arc sx10 sight. Navigator 610 arrows.A Shibuya button and Arco Spig ZT arrow rest and a pair of 16 strand Fast Flight strings. Bow stand, Cavalier Tab, Gompy leather quiver and arm brace. I have upgraded the limbs twice, first to Winact 40#, then Winex 42#. The sight to a Copperjohn ANTS FITA. A full set of Doinkers and an Arco Spig angled V-bar.The strings are now Angel Majesty 18 strand. I shoot Fatboys indoors and the same Navigators with heavier points (100gn) outdoors. Take your time. You will upgrade your limbs, but you can stick with a good riser and sight.

Thanks Steve,

more helpful advice to whittle down my eventual search.

My shortlist is improving and I should have several risers and limb combinations to try out. I only hope that the shop will be patient and gentle with me

The Challenger limbs were also on my list along with the T-Rex, but all the help received is most welcome and combined should do the trick in a few weeks time.

Good shooting

Malcolm

Thanks for the swift reply mate.

Personally, I'd rather spend money earlier on if it means getting decent kit to use, rather than have to buy better gear a few months down the line.

Buy cheap, buy twice was the analogy I heard someone use.
