Should I buy an arrow straightner?

Hi all

Over the easter break i decided to have a practice in between the gusts of wind. Unfortunately I missed the target face on the boss and hit the wood edge cartwheeling the arrow over into the next field. Anyway the short of it is the arrow bent at the fletching end, they are new XX75 2115. im assuming that i can straighten it, but is it worth it? (Im still new the whole archery thing)

Cheers all

James

yes you can, nd for the heck of it you should try - perhaps the club or a friend there has a straightenning jig.

My own attempts though, at straightening anything but a center bend have been dismal to say the least.

If you aren't a club with a jagillion beginners then I'd advise not bothering to buy one. See is someone has one who would be willing to show you how they work. There's the scissor grip kind which are good for getting an arrow back to looking like an arrow and the kind that have a built in transducer and gauge to quantify how unstraight the arrow is.

Also you have to be aware of any stress marks appearing on the arrow around the bend which would make it unsuitable for straightening. If you have 11 other XX75s then you'll be fine without it even though it is a sad loss whenever it happens.

as club equipment officer i have a jig, and what i can say is that you will never get it trully straight.
i can get them straight enougth to shoot for begginers but they will shoot no further that 20 yards and would not effect their groups, if you intend to compeat with this arrow the best thing for it would use it as a plant support.

right time of the year for that, so all is not lost.

Just be sure that you get the spine of the arrow matched to the type of plant. Too stiff and the plant will move and be pushed against the tie where the plant is attatched to the arrow, too weak and the plant won't get enough support.

A good arrow straighter such as the arten costs about £90 and if you can straighten the arrow its always going to be suspect. But £90 will buy another dozen xx75 arrows that are straight and true.

Jerry , As to plant stakes would the barrelled shafts of an ACE or an X10 be better to allow the flexing on the plant

Best wishes, Mark

I hope there's not any livestock in that field, either way you don't have enough overshoot if you can get arrows onto someone else's property.

Personally, I'd buy new arrows... they are so crucial to the final outcome why scrimp on saving a minimal amount that it is to replace an XX75

If it's just for your own use then isuggest that you'd be better off with some more arrows, and maybe move the target a wee bit closer when it's really gusty (thats what I do)
