Tiller

What makes you choose your tiller and at what point do you tune it in the tuning process?

I've always tried to utilize tiller function (adjustable risers) mainly early doors to minimise vibration and equalise the draw, sight stops on the target easier while drawing, but once that's adjusted I tend to "tiller" by nocking point position.

at my lowly level i find its easiest just to set tiller early on to manufacturers spec (ie - zero in my case) and take things from there

In all the years I've shot I have never had to alter the tiller of my bow's,
except on one occasion and that was when I chose to increase the poundage slightly. It only came into play when I checked it, having adjusted the limbs equally (I thought). Noticing the slight variation I made the appropriate adjustment.
Other than that, I have never let tillering come into the equation. Maybe that is because I have been lucky in that the manufacturer has always been correct with the product. The day may come when I change my mind, but there is far more important things to get right first.....ie the archer..

Lol good question... I just stick the limbs on, have a check on the tiller and see if its acceptable to me so like within 1/4" positive. That's it.

Zero. Set nice and early in tuning so I can forget all about it and instead worry about things like a chronically poor release hand.

There are many threads on this.

As for recomended by the manufacturer.... Not sure how good that is

Here goes. The reason i ask is to see how many folks have noticed this and from the sounds of it... One has shown it in this thread.

Two things that effect static tiller...

1: Brace height: the higher the brace height the higher the tiller will show.
2: Limb pre load: The more the limbs are wound in the more tiller shows.

so how important is static tiller?
Although it is the only measurement you can take, its a very crude one.
If you have 4mm, or zero or any other measurement... of tiller and that is your holy grail, then adjusting it again from manufacturers recomendation could be a good thing, or worse a bad thing. The measurement you have taken is static tiller? Would you not say that 4mm wound out (our weight is measured fully out) and Brace height in mid position of recomended then that should have the same tiller difference, to that of a pair of limbs with a high brace height, fully wound in, even if they show 8mm. For example, isnt it the same difference in top to bottom limb, its just showing more ? The balance is till the same. What effect does on tiller have on accuracy? For example, your using a different part of the DFC if your limbs are wound in. but does the now 8mm have a effect, or should it be wound back to 4mm?

This came about again in a conversation with a fellow archer, thought we could open it up and see what you have observed too.

don't have tiller adjustment

perris whitehart and border xp13 evo limbs are, sorry, were built so that any tillering was incorporated in the design.

one less thing to worry about

I hope this is not a distaraction to the thread, but I always thought tiller was built into a bow so the limbs returned at the same time as one another. Is that the main reason for having a stiffer bottom limb? Before adjustable poundage systems, there was no choice, the bowyer built it in. I can only guess that having adjustable poundage, allows for a form of tiller adjustment, as a side benefit. I assume it could be useful to take into account vatiations in stabilsers and draw hand contacts with the string.

True.

yes, but the complications are rife. Everyone out there with ILF, has the ability to Muck it up.
As The_bowman said, its a complication.

Take a bow and set tiller to 4mm wound out. Now wind it right in and remeasure. You will get some idea of the bog you have just stepped into. How are the limbs/you meant to get some consistancy in what your shooting if you tweek one area whats the impact somewhere else.
