String advice

I'm currently shooting a generic fast flight string, and have done since i first got my own bow, but i'm wondering whether there's anything "better" (i use the word carefully) that anyone might particularly recommend looking into? I'm currently looking at having to do some serving maintainance on it for the nth time, but i've been wondering about getting a new string entirely.

Try SMD strings for a nice 8125 two tone; mine's still holding strong after a year (though didn't see much use over the winter). I can also recommend Angel Majesty. Both of these string materials caused a nice improvement in my sight marks over a fastflight string and have needed less maintenance.

What serving tool are you using to repair the serving? I've found that with a cheapie one the serving couldn't be wound tight and would end up coming loose after around 100-200 shots. However I've got a Majesty string that I made around 18 months ago that still has the original serving with no repairs made. I use a Beiter serving tool and it is fantastic.

It was a beiter serving jig - and it's was just before christmas, so i've had a fair bit of use out of it. i can't remember the actual serving type, but i think it was aardvarks' standard cheapish one.

I'm leaning towards the fact that your technique might be the problem... I used fast flight with cheapie aard serving with no problems at all. BCY 8125 is fab stuff and I would also recommend this... but check out your serving technique as I fear you will still have the same problem regardless of string make!

Good job you've got the bow set up displayed otherwise i wouldn't've found the SDM strings site!

Having had a look, what difference does it make having an 18 or 16 strand string. I'm guessing 16 would be faster, 18 stonger?

Quite possibly, although i did this one under lez's watchful eye, so maybe not - and the one before was my coach's. Before that i'd never had a problem for well over a year. One thing that does cross my mind is that it could be to do with how i store the string - sometimes it gets a kink in the serving which won't be doing too much to help. it might just be that i need to be more careful storing it.

Maybe so... it is a common war cry not to bend the serving! I used to keep mine either in the sight bag or with the limbs - either way it couldn't get bent or interfered with!
