Centre serving?

Hi

The centre serving on my string has worn out. Or, more accurately, the serving on the serving. My string has a centre serving which is the standard length, 7-8 inches I think. Because the arrow knocks are a bit slack the chap who made the string put a very fine serving just below the string knock, of about half an inch. The knocks are 3d, I think. Has this been done because the correct gauge serving material wasn't in stock? The nocks go nicely onto the serving on the string ends.

The problem now, is that the fine serving has worn out after not very much shooting and the arrow knocks are a bit sloppy.

So do I buy another string or buy the tools and some serving and replace it.

Get the kit to do it your self.. I made my first string today with the aid of club members , the club jig and a good read on the web..

A reel of serving material is about a tenner and a serving tool ( I bought a bcy tool ) was about a tenner..

Easy when you get to have a go with it.

also if it is the centre serving, it does not need a jig.
Just do it while it's on the bow........test the nocks fit as you have got settled in with it, but before you get to its centre, tighten the tension if it is still to tight for the nock.
The serving string also comes in various thickness's.

Thanks. I've used cotton to build it up. Also binned the brass nock and made two with embroidery thread. Used water thin super glue. Nice crisp click!!

The for/against superglue argument is a long and passionately fought one but.....

if you are actually snapping your arrow nock onto a built up area of cotton and superglue, you might live to regret it as superglue can become brittle. You might find your arrow suddenly doesnt fit your string snugly any more.

If your string isnt thick enough for the arrow nock you can either warm the nocks up (nice cup of tea) and pinch them in a bit, or re-do the center serving and add an extra strand of bowstring thread before you actually serve it to give you the correct thickness for your nocks
