Limb savers.....do they?

I've always wondered if limbsavers did anything detrimental like slow your limbs down or maybe could potentially cause damage if stuck in the wrong area of limb

Can anyone enlighten me as to any real benefit they've experienced please

I've got them on two recurves: a Hoyt Axis with G3s and a W&W Toutall with Challenger Craft. They quieten the Axis a little and don't affect the sight marks. They quieten the Toutall a little and lower the sightmarks a tidge.

The main reason they're on is as a bit of voodoo against limb delamination.

In my experience they don't do a great deal, but are harmless. Except on one occasion...at the Yorkshire Championships last year I had to duck sharpish when a guy on the line dry-fired and his Limb Saver flew off, straight at my head!

I know of an archer complaining at a tournament, that since he tuned his bow his scores have gone down, a quick inspection of the bow it was soon noticed that he had put his limb savers about and inch from the string grove and the limb savers were being cuting in half by the string.

Personnaly I feel if youre bow is tuned and the tiller is correct set up for you then their is no need for limb savers, any bow I have set up for myself or a club member I have never warranted putting limb savers on.

Ibut on the other hand I have got a small limb saver on my sight extension, this has stoped the sight block from working lose which was an issues for me no matter how much thread lock or double sided tape I put on.

I had some stuck on my Winacts at the fadeouts for awhile. Very slight effect on sight marks. Bow shot a little bit quieter. Didn't really see the point in them seeings I am not using the bow for bowhunting so noise is not an issue other than maybe indicating a bad tune.

I have them on both sets of limbs. i feel that they do make a difference, and are an aid to archery.I prefer a quiet bow, with minimum vibration.

can/usually take the finish off the limbs if removed or if they fly off.

I've always put my limb savers on the far side of the limb so that if they do come off when the bow is shot they zoom down the range and not into your eye!

And they are nice to twiddle with and wibble wobble when waiting for judges and the like to saunter back to the shooting line as if we had all day to shoot a distance, thus adding 4 hours to a tournament.

i have a pair of limbsavers on my limbs and it quietens the bow alot. If i add on my limbsaver S-coil as a top damper, my clicker is louder than my bow
I think its much more comfortable to shoot with a quiet bow that falls away from your hand silently...

I haven't heard or read of a single limb they have saved. They are really just vibration dampers. I have heard and read that if you put them much beyond the fad-out portion of the limb they can/do start to slow it down (increase the mass of the moving part of the limb).

Don't see the point...but don't care if some one else wants to spend the money. (smile)
