The knack for removing centre serving??

So do we just attack it at one end or do we somehow weaken/loosen it's tightness first?

thanks

Er, why do you want to remove your centre serving?

because it is the wrong diameter. It's not fat enough.

Just overwrap the nocking point area with something like dental floss and superglue.

Carefully cut the first couple of turns at one end and it will just unravel. A razor blade flat against the string strands will do the job without damaging the strands.

Thanks. No, I want the correct size of serving. The pile of crap that is on needs to come off. It had dental floss on to begin with and it came off very quickly. I know I'm new to this, but it just seems like a non-solution.

I have some 0.025 polygrip and a serving tool on their way!!

I tend to pull at one end until I can work the loose end loose enough to pull free.

The big thing for me was how to unwind the serving without getting in a tangle. No one seems to do an "unserving" jig.

I use a small cylinder (lip salve or old lipstick container). Tie the loose end to it. Place the cylinder against the string and wrap my fingers loosely round it. By oscillating my hand in the direction of the serving, I found I could get the cylinder to rotate in the opposite direction, thus winding up the loose serving thread as it came off the string.

Interesting approach ...., did you consider buying a new string with a bigger centre serving?

For about 30 seconds. It's cheaper to replace the serving. I can have it how I want it then. It paves the way for me making my own strings in future.

Great advice so far. I have some single sided razor blades. Unwinder never occurred to me, cheers.
