Phoenix Riser

Has any one got or used a Phoenix riser if so would you recommend them?

One of our juniors brought one 3 months ago and has had some issues with the grub screws at the side of the pocket that align the limbs. They have moved and had to much be constantly reset I believe it would be better if they were slightly longer in length. As for the riser when set up and checked he liked it a lot but for a beginner I believe it is not the riser to go for too much to go awray. I have heard of others who have had similiar problems but lock-tite resolved them to a degree. That said it appears to shoot very well and is not too heavy but having to constantly check alignment would be a factor in anyones choice.

I know two people that have Phoenix risers both have had the long rod mounting bush come loose. Chiltern replaced one without quibble the other was repaired by re gluing the bush with Araldite. Both are pleased with the bow but I think but quality control could be better.
Perhaps the Winstar 2 would be a better choice

If I'm not mistaken this is the descendant of the S3, and as such should be a good intermediate (or better) choice. The price for the 2007 model at the moment makes it exceptional value (IMHO of course! )

Be aware - if you go for the Phoenix riser in carbon fibre - it's not carbon fibre! It's just a surface coating which apparently scratches and/or peels off quite easily. I know somone who bought one and was quite disappointed to find it was not what he thought - although I could never understand why the weight didn't tell him something was not quite right when he was trying it!

I have one,

From my personal experience its nice to shoot, however (its a big however) most of the bolts from the limb pocket alinement grub screws to the limb mushroom bolts have come lose during shooting, most cases after two ends, so be prepared to keep tightning parts of the bow on a regular basis.

(The bows still under warranty so might be going back)

There isnt enough tiller adjustment for my liking, its not adjustable as say a winstar II

As highlighted before the build quality can be a bit dodgy

If i was looking again for an entry intermediate bow I probably go for something else from a better brand hoyt, Win&Win, KAP
