it isn't - I was just pondering that clockwise from either end would be the same....

Then again I've always added twists from the bottom because the string loop on the top limb would be bigger and I'll just slide it down the top limb and anchor it as such hence the anticlockwise twisting from the bottom limb expression for a RH archer hehe

sorry, late night revision sends me a bit crazy....
I agree. This is one of my favourite archery myths.
I always wondered where this idea came from that the string twists when you draw it. Ive even heard it from a national coach, but it doesnt hold up in testing.
Sure, when you draw the bow, your fingers on the string may roll the serving perhaps half a turn. This would impart half a turn more on the top half of the string and unwind half a turn on the bottom half. That is a net change of 0 zero zip nothing and half a turn over half the string length just isnt a significant difference for anybody! (unless anyone can PROVE different)

Just think of the thread on a bolt...Turn the nut clockwise and it will go away from you further down the bolt...Now turn it the opposite way and repeat....once again it goes away from you.
The string whichever way you look at it is the same. The only pre-caution needed is checking the way the original serving was applied..... To put another spanner in the fan....the end servings and the centre serving can in fact contradict each other if not served correct, by that I mean they could be served opposite ways...

just to 'over-anologise' - imagine the axle on a car...viewed from the drivers side if the wheel goes clockwise, the car goes forward. If the wheel on the passenger side also went clockwise we'd have a problem Houston...

Maybe the bracing height of the axle would increase, ...... or would the front just collapse?...

Absolutely, thats why I mentioned the importance of the serving polarity before starting to add any twists to the string to ensure we maintain a nice tight serving.

I suppose it should not be laughed at, more like a cringe. When people have asked which way you should twist to raise/lower the B/H and the reply comes straight out, without the direction serving has been applied taken into account......
