clockwise or anti clock? String twist??

For a right hander. If you were to put the lower limb on the floor with string at right angles to the floor, looking down the string from the top limb. which direction should the string be twisted??

Cheers

depends i how i serve the end loops and centre serving, so i twist the string ensuring the loops and serving in effect tighten when twisted,
i serve (looking at my jig) over the top of the string away from me. so i twist clockwise look down the top of my string.

aaaaaaargh! No, the string can't untwist/ twist up more at full draw, as both ends are prevented from twisting/ untwisting as they're attached to the limbs! Lots of people seem to believe this, but despite them having a bow in front of them, no one thinks to check it for themselves, and somehow the myth lives on.....

sorry, late night revision sends me a bit crazy....

I've been taught by my coach to twist anticlockwise when looking up from the bottom limb for a RH archer. Something about clockwise twisting that untwists the string at full draw or goes against the grain for a RH archer...

I did also find a link somewhat relating to this string twisting on a Japanese archery website if its any use. Scroll to the bottom of the page, apparently the guys at Hasco Archery recommend the same anticlockwise twisting as my coach for a RH archer.

Another important thing to consider before you start twisting is to see which way the serving has been done(if you're using a pre made string). The last thing you'll want is to serve the opposite direction of the original serving and cause the serving to loosen as more twists are added to the string.

its a bit difficult to visualise, but if you are twisting clockwise looking from the top, isn't that also clockwise looking from the bottom?

String twist direction doesn't matter.

Put on serving in the same direction as string twist.

I don't think so, isn't it anticlockwise from the bottom?

not if I have it right - if I anchor one end and twist the other clockwise, then anchor the opposite end and wind the now free end anti-clockwise I'll undo the first twists.....
