| noise from a wrap around is normally just the arm housing becoming loose. Easy way to tell is to ping the string with out an arrow on it. If it makes the sound then hold the arm against the riser so it does not move then ping the string again. If the rest doesnt make the sound this time then the rest will just need some kind of teflon or oil applied to stop the noise. This wont be a permanent fix but will help. If however it only makes the noise when shot with an arrow then you may well have clearence issues.

| i'm sure there are already several threads about this, however, i gave up on wrap arounds in favour of stick ons and haven't looked back.

and swapped from a stick-on to wrap-around, mainly because I needed the vertical adjustment (I was swapping between alis and carbons). It's not made a huge difference (I still don't shoot all-gold ends ) but I did find the wrap-around more adjustable and no longer have problems with the back of the rest flipping out and occasionally catching and damaging the fletchings.

General question......Is one type of rest more prone to clearance problems than the other???

| I find that at times, metal rests with the hook on the end of the supporter arm may cause clearance problems at times. Just get an adjustable stick on rest with a flat arm and set it at a slight upright angle to keep the arrow on. I usually trim the arm with some pliers once I've set my centershot with about 2/3rds of the arrow rest supporter arm under the arrow. If you plan to change between thin carbons and fat aluminiums however, many at my club have found the AFT-2 free tuning rest(the one without the torque adjustor) to be the best there is. Relatively easy to adjust and you can practically make it fit every setup.

| I don't think there is anything to choose from a clearance perspective - but you do need to set them up correctly. With wrap-arounds - cut off anything designed to hold the arrow on and make sure that it doesn't stick out past the shaft. I've broken 1250 with both. I have a bucket of Cavalier Free-Flytes (including an Elite) and they are all fine but just more hassle than they are worth IMO- and they stick out, and they are ugly and all but the Elite are noisy. I acquired an ARE Free-tuning thingy on a secondhand Avalon and it is OK but no better than anything else. (quite neat and a bit sexier if you like that sort of thing )I find that good quality stick on rests work as well, are neater and less prone to needing "readjustment". I have one of the new W&W magnetic rests (about £15 quid) and the vertical support is fantastic. I have a bunch of ARE rests and they are very good too. The Soma rest looks good value but I haven't tried it. The old Ukrainian flip rests that you may still be able to get from people like the Needham's or Priestman's are top notch and cheap too ![]() If your rest has changed behaviour- you've either changed something in the way you shoot, draw weight, arrow type etc (More vibration into the riser) or the magnet is dirty and not repelling the arm properly (or damaged or falling out) HTH Stretch |

| Used to use stick-on W&W.Snapped the wire on first one (because my nocking point way way too high).Second one lasted until i sold riser (4 months & had to restick it once)Nice simple rest, adjustable height, flipped nice and easy causing no clearence problems.I liked it Now got new expensive shiny riser,so i brought a "better" arrow rest(Spigarelli ZT) Bit fiddilly, but after setting it up you can more or less leave it alone. Its sturdier than the stick-on so doesn't need to be adjusted as much vertically. Its flip action is stiffer than stick-on but doesn't seem to be a problem. The only problem with it,was that there's a little lip on the end of the wire which caused me a small clearence problem.I simply snipped it off with a pair of cutters. No more problem.I like it Overall,i like the action and simplicity of the stick-on,and the sturdiness of the wrap around. The wrap around rests are 3 x more expensive but i dont think they are 3 x better. If i had to make a choice i'd pick one of each sorry!!!!!!!!

| Tried Shme1440's suggestion last night.... Pinged the string....the rest went ping.... Question answered!!! I'll maybe have a look at the magnet etc, to make sure that everything is as it should be. I am thinking that something has happened since I'm sure that the ping wasn't there a few months ago. I may just buy a new rest and be done with it....Thanks for the input/help etc... ![]()
