Petron Dual Click sight

Hi Y'all
Looking for and I guess, to express opinion really.

I just nabbed a petron dual click sight on ebay for next to nowt.
'Nowt' is what I guess many would say it's worth too.
My only reason for buying it is that I want to experiment with bow action using a sight that hold the weight further out from the bow than my Arten Olympic - and £15 quid delivered will always leave me with a fair sight to donate to beginners.

I've yet to shoot it ( being on night shifts at the moment) - but to me it seems a very nicely machined piece of kit....quite solid- it doesn't look like it'll shake to pieces in the first end atall.

My grievance with it is that while it has 8 clicks per rotation on the up-down adjuster....and 7 clicks per left/right -THERE'S NO CALIBRATION ON THE KNOBS !

What an oversight on the design side!
Has anyone considered manually adding calibration marks with a Dremmel or similar...maybe even adding a narrow tape with marked calibrations on it? Where can I purloin a tape to suffice?

More to the point - is 7 or 8 clicks fine enough adjustment to really be of much use past beginner level?

I tend to agree though!

Most of the stuff seems to be made from mechano, and to be honest, there are much better things out there for the same money!

I cant say that I wouldn't tend to agree....being somewhat of an equipment snob myself.
But then - as I was thinking that this was a very nice starter sight ( when compared to most starter sights) nicely made for the price - just lacking in a little 'finesse' in adjustability and calibration.
It's no Shib DC for sure, but on inspection would easily rival and better the lower end Cartels...and if they could be had regularlyfor around the £20 mark including some calibration marks they'd make a very useable newbie/intermediate sight, certainly for clubs - of which I'm contemplating breaking off and forming a new one...or at least helping to organise.

This one coming from Chiltern Archery - I think I'll try it out - see what it's adjustment is like at 90m/100y - and get busy finishing it off design wise.

I guess what struck me was that I wasn't as dissappointed as I thought I'd be when it arrived.....and how much more appealing it would be for the the inclusion of some calibration marks on the knobs.

Just ensure you keep the grub screws tightened and it will last as well.

The only reason I had issues with mine was the fact I failed in basic maintenance and care... the same reason two Shubyia buttons are now used for spare parts.

The sight is OK, I have a very similar one. It will be improved vastly by stripping it, cleaning it and lubing it before making sure all the grub screws are appropriately secured. (ie not done up as hard as you can...) It is not without its faults however and whilst I would agree its a long way in front of Cartel bottom end / mid end sights it ought to be a whole lot better considering chiltern want just shy of £100 for them new ! The windage on mine just really doesn't work and once you strip the pin carrier barell you'll understand why... The location of the sight extension arm has a habit of becoming very vague as well- theres a ball bearing under a spring to drop into the vague notches on the arm and its easy for the grub screw on top of it that is supposed to keep the pressure on to work loose. It would be nice to set it up and loctite it all together but all the springs in mine have a tendancy to rust so I have to strip, clean and lube again... good job I didn't pay the full price for mine when I bought it !

well - bit the bullet - tied it out....

There is no no point in trying to apply calibration notches to the knobs as different parts of the worm screw need from 8 to 14 clicks to make the same adjustment...I cant work with that...it's at the end of its ' developement' - it can't be 'finished'....can't be improved....useless piece of kack... i'm a better archer than it is a sight.
And the windage 'gave up' after 18 arrows...about the same time a couple of grub screws worked loose.

Glad I only gave £14.49 ( all in ) for it.

Now to find a snotty, spotty, stubborn, lippy teenage improver to give it to and hamper his progress-

"ha-ha" I'll whisper to myself, " Try to get to GMB with that piece of junk, Master know-it-all!"

Marks out of ten, after further inspection :
,

oops...did I forget to bother ?
