Question Strings are a few of my favourite things

I have a Hoyt Elan.

After a break of about a year I have started shooting again.

The string with the bow is now quite a few years old, and although looks fine, Im thinking of getting a new one (The serving is starting to wear anyway).

Im looking for recommendations of strings, and who I should get a ready made version from? (I usually get my stuff from Quicks)

Cheers

Quicks do have a 'Custom made' service for strings. I got one for my Oneida and was pleased with the result.

I had mine made for me through Linecutter Archery, nice string with a choice of materials, colours, servings, etc.

I've an order that should be coming soon from SDM strings so will let you know how that goes, however I have been shooting Rob Timm of australia's Bling Strings and I can say they are fantastic.

Had a mail from SDM yesterday that he will not be making any strings for the near future.

I also have an Elan (with W&W limbs) and have found that a standard length string for a 68" bow will not allow a bracing height of less than 9". I have to order mine 1/4" longer.

That's the advantage of the custom made service from Quicks I sent them my old string for a lenght and told them what I wanted.

If you're so fond of strings, IMO there's no substitute for making your own.

My preferences would be SDM strings (although if they are no longer being made that is unfortunate), Greg Hill (very nice although possibly a little pricey), Rob Timms at BlingStrings (very nice strings and well priced, although they have to come from Australia) and making your own. Dependant on what you want I would recommend making your own or getting BlingStrings to do them - I had a full set of strings and cables delivered in around 10 days from ordering even though they have to come from Australia.
