| umm, i've finally started shooting again with my own equipment. i've found that i'm wearing the skin off the inside of my index finger on my right hand. i presume this is the arrow doing this... would a finger spacer stop this from happening ? any advice welcomed ![]() |
| do you have nock points, and if so, what kind?

| i've heard stuff, too, but i've used mine without any detrimental effect. that said, my index finger peels as well and i've narrowed it down to nock points. but then, if it peels, i know i'm pinching. if you don't use a spacer, it might help. it's worth a try. meanwhile, if it bothers you, you could try some vetwrap or similar.

| it is kinda frustrating really - i shot 100 arrows earlier into my newly home made boss and it really hurts now ![]() i might replace them with tie on nocks, as they dont look too hard to do. might try a spacer as well as i'm sure they're cheap off ebay - i'm just using a basic tab - nothing special at all. what's pinching ? if you dont mind my naivity. thanks for help so far :] |

| pinching is when your squeeze your nock or generally press down on it. if you can find someone in your club that does tie on nocks, have them show you. if you don't do it right, they can move up and down on the centre serving.

| Several possible reasons to switch from brass nocks to tied in ones. 1. They can tear up the face of your tab. 2. They slow the string a bit, so you should achieve slightly better sight marks. 3. If you have 2 brass nocks set quite close they can force the arrow of the string as you come to full draw. Tied in nocks are kinder on tabs, and if they are close are more likely to deform a little and not force the arrow out. I also get slight some roughening on the skin of my index finger. This is because I deliberately bring my index finger in to light contact with the top of the arrow nock. I feel this gives a positive placement of my fingers. The finger spacer then ensures that my middle finger does not contact the nock. I was always taught that this was the major problem in arrow pinching. If the middle finger contacts the nock, then it can lift off the rest and can go anywhere. Not tried vet wrap, but it sounds like something I could try. |

| I have very flexible fingers. At full draw the tips of index and second finger can almost meet, due to the way the string presses them together. I made a finger spacer with a support that went under the index finger to keep it up and away from the second finger. Another thing that helped, was a tab that had a specially shaped piece for the index finger. The special shape provided an extra piece that wrapped half way round the last joint of the index finger, on the side that contacts the nock. The nock wears the leather, not the finger.(similar to a shooting glove but nout fully round the finger) |
