| How to setup my sight for the first time? Argh.... I just spent the better part of 45 minutes searching through 20 pages of threads that hit on the word "sight" and I didn't see a thread explaining how to setup a sight for the first time. I've even read through the Archer's Reference Guide and didn't find any info on setting it. And naturally my Cartel sight doesn't come with any sort of directions. Anyone have a tip on how to set the sight up for the first time?

| Follow your arrows, If your arrows are going high move your sight block up. If your arrows go low, lower your sight block, Its the same with left & right , screw your eye sight in or out. With fine adjustment you will get it right....

| check your string runs centrally through your limbs and centre of your riser - adjust your rest and button (assuming you have one) so that the arrow tip is just to the left of the string when viewed from directly behind (this is for a right-handed archer) - adjust your sight ring in / out until the pin is just above the arrow (ie - also just to the left of the string for a right-handed archer) this will give you a starting point for left / right adjustment - if your arrows land left of where you aim them then move the sight ring left and vice-versa up / down adjustment will be a matter of trial and error to start with - id suggest you slide the block up to near the top of your sight track and shoot at the gold from about 15 yards and see where the arrows land - above the gold and you need to move your sight block UP - below the gold and you need to move it DOWN (basically as jethro said follow the arrows) - once you have them landing in the middle at 15 yards note the position on the sight track (easy if it has numbers on it) and move back to 20 yards and repeat - do this at 10 yard intervals until you reach the limit of your bow or get to the bottom of the sight track all this assumes you have a bow and arrows that are roughly matched to each other in terms of draw weight and arrow spine which cartel sight by the way ? - will help to give more specific advice slainte rob

| for an initial sight setting, the level1 coaches handbook (in the section introducing the beginner to sights for the very first time) says something like: "measure the distance between the jaw and the corner of the eye. This can easily be achieved by putting the thumb under the jaw bone and the index finger at the side of the eye. Transfer this distance onto the sight as a distance above the arrow." That'll give you a reasonable guestimate at 10-15 yards. When you establish a good sight mark, remember to write it down on 8 peices of paper, as you will undoubtably loose 7 of them. An intelligent archer, not only records the setting for a distance, but also how much adjustment is required to make the arrows move 1 colour band (vertical scale and horizontal scale)
