| Time before changing string? Ok. I have been shooting with the same string for a year soon, Around august '07, and I'm wondering, is it neccesary to change string? Uhm, to explain how much I train. I train around 1 - 4 times every weak, at least 60 arrows with 40# limbs. Will there be any problems with my string or is the problem noticcable (spelling?) during, after or before shooting? |

| Whilst I'm now a longbow shooter, I did shoot recurve for a number of years. I used to shoot a similar amoun of arrows and I used to replace my strings about every 9 months (Fastflight). I didn't have any scientific reasoning for this, just that the performance seemed to tail off after a while and a new string helped. Of course, it may just have been the psychological boost from a new bit of kit ![]()

| Just under 20 years ago I shot 3 times a week (about 600 arrows / week) I then stopped shooting until last year - I still use the same string I used then and its performing great, no plans to change it until it starts to look dodgy. So I estimate the string is 22 years old and still going strong, never looked after it other than waxing it and it was thown in an archery case in the loft during the years on non use.

| the old kevlar strings ,you were advised not to shoot more than 5000 arrows with them . so i presume that fast/ f ...BCY etc 7500 - 10000 arrows isn't too much to ask. if its not broke (frayed) why change |

Fastflight (spectra/dyneema) on the other hand is pretty durable. You just replace strings (a) when they get scruffy (b) when you lose confidence in them (c) when you feel like it. That's assuming you don't see any physical evidence of a need to change (unusual amounts of creeping for example).

| Put a new string on for the indoor season, shoot it all outdoor season, put a new string on for the indoor season, shoot it all outdoor season, put a new string on for the indoor season, zzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!! |

| It depends on how much you shoot. In my first year I have gone through 6 strings; 3 wore out, 1 snapped, 2 the serving materials gave up. If the string is not overly frayed or worn and it still performs okay whey would you want another one?

When you notice that you suddenly start having to add more twists than normal into the string,to obtain your normal bracing height its a sign that its past its best. You should also notice that your sightmarks suddenly get worse as well. The other way to tell that its time to change string is if it becomes too scruffy. The basic concensus is that the average club archer should change a well maintained string once a year.
