| I cut through the foam using a jig saw fitted with a carpet/foam cutting blade (available from screwfix) then glue the foam to some cheap camping sleeping mat using copydex. ps. You have bought some nice equipment and chosen very well. Last edited by Albert; 09-07-08 at 02:23 AM. Reason: Afterthought |

| I marked mine out using a paper/card template so I was sure it all fitted in and then I cut all the way through the foam with some very cheap extendible craft knives. These were 99p for 10 and were the ones where the blades slide out to a lot longer than the foam. Yes they are rubbish and the go blunt quite quickly but they are only 9.9p each so use a few. If I needed to have a shallower bit for things like the V-Bar or the sight I cut all the way through the foam and then cut the bit that came out in half - much easier than trying to cut a flat bottomed indent as you just can't get the knife in properly. Take your time and think about it - works well though. Rip

| A warm blade will also ensure the foam cuts a lot more neatly. Just make sure you are in a well ventilated area and the fumes are not very pleasent and don't get the blade too hot or the foam remains melted and wet for a while afterwards. When this drys it creates a harder surface which you might not like against your equipment.

| Is there any where near you where you can pick up a piece of similar of foam, you can practice on. That way you'll find which of the previously suggested methods works best for you.

| If you get stuck and you're fussy as to what it looks like, Quicks sell a pre-cut foam insert to fit most cases. It's on page 61 of their current catalogue which can be downloaded here.
