Hoyt Axis Limb Hardware

Hi Everyone.

Just got hold of an Axis with Border TX40 Gold limbs. I want to switch the limbs for KAP Challenger Craft limbs, and am having a problem changing the hardware over from ILF to Hardlock. I can get the screw undone and the pin/spring arrangement out, but the mount on the inside of the limbs, which appears to be fixed to the limb, won't budge. Has anyone any experience of getting these out? I'm a tad nervous about going in with a hammer...

When I converted my FX's to Hardlock it took 5min...is it that only Hoyt limbs can be changed, and the Borders have been specially made?

I had a similar problem getting the dovetail fitting out of some G3s.

Solution: a 1-ton-rated bench vice, a piece of dowel and a thick piece of wood with a hole drilled in it.

Place the piece of wood on the belly side of the limb with the dovetail in the hole. Place the dowel on the limb fitting on the back side of the limb. Place the whole assembly in the jaws of the vice. Close the vice slowly so the dowel pushes the fitting out. Fiddly, but it comes out easily without damage to the limbs.

Use a good hefty vice. I tried first with a hobby vice, and it snapped.

No, Miles, it's only FX's that have it happen nice and easy, it seems. I don't have a vice, so had to take a hammer and nail to my G3s.

Two solid surfaces half an inch apart, drop the hardware in the gap with the curve of the limb facing up (you really don't want to try and get it out in the other direction), smack it gently with a hammer and some sort of centrepunch/nail thing.

This was, however, the way it was done in Hoyt limbs. I doubt the Border limbs would have been specially made for the Axis, so it will probably work that way, Just make sure nothing is permanently attached/glued into place.

Is that the Axis and limbs that went for a song on Ebay.co.uk not long ago? Lucky you

I took the pins in my first set of Border limbs out altogether when I first got them (the springs were creaking slightly when the bow was at full draw, so I added a bit of lubricant to the insides and all was well). I've also seen Sid at Border take them out of a set of TX40s without much trouble, so it should be possible.

If you want to be sure, mail them and check (sid@borderbows.com)

It's the ebay one - One of my club members bought it off me. I'm planning on keeping the limbs as they are too heavy for her, and I have some KAP's kicking around that would be much better for her, but i'm having *issues* changing the hardware.

Okay, pretty much got border sewn up, anyone Tried doing KAP/Win&Win's?

I was wondering why anybody would want to swap their TX40s for KAP ones.

I look forward to trying them :-).

I went to Aardvark in the end, Neil did a cracking job for us. Thanks for your assistance - I just don't trust myself with a one ton bench vice and £400 worth of limbs!
