Penicuik

I'm thinking of doing one or both of the Penicuik Tournaments this year. I've been told that it may not be possible to camp at the venue, can anyone enlighten me on this. If it is not possible, do you know of any camp sites in the area.

Thanks

Abby and Jared camp at these quite often. Might be worth giving them a call.

Cheers,
Becky.

i think the competitions take place on my old high school sports field so its a no camp area.

my parents live near penicuik. There is a camp site called "Slatebarns" which is very very close to Roslin Chapel (of da vinci code fame) which is a nice modern site. know the owner. the bus service between roslin and penicuik leaves a lot to be desired though and was rather infuriating growing up having to cycle everywhere. its a 30 min walk to a road with a decent bus service to penicuik. its a few minutes drive from the campsite to the penicuik field.

the camp site is shown (link to map) as a little blue tent to the east of roslin. the sports field is in the north east of penicuik near the "Edin" bit of "Edinburgh Road" on the A701.
http://multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=325000&Y=660000&width=7 00&height=400&gride=&gridn=&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db= &addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&local=&localin fosel=&kw=&inmap=&table=&ovtype=&keepicon=&zm=0&sc ale=100000&multimap.x=347&multimap.y=128

there is another campsite on the south side of edinburgh thats a 15minute drive to the shoot. i forget the name but its on the south edge between the city bypass and the city itself.

EDIT> it not at my old high school but the other school in the town that is ccloser to the centre of the town where it says "penicuik" on the map.

Thanks very much for the replies, I would dearly like to have a look around Roslin so Slatebarns would be be ideal. The only problem is that from looking at their website I got the impression they only took caravans. I'll give them a ring.

roslin isnt anything special, but the chapel, castle and walks round about are rather splendid. take your walking boots although most of the paths on the whole are ok with trainers, just be prepared to jump the muddy bits! in the chappel they have a booklet called "Roslin Rambles" that costs 50p or something and has some nice walks mapped on it. id suggest visiting the chappel first thing in the morning, since the da vinci code book the place is stowed out with yanks all day every day and i cant see the upcoming film of the book helping matters!

i cant conciously remember if the sight does tents but i dont see why not, they have a smaller footprint than caravans and require the same facilities. they do have a shower block etc on the sight.

il probably drop by the shoot(s) for a little while and walk the line although i havent spoken to any penicuik archers for about 5 years. i might even become a member there over the summer hollidays so could even compete.

walked past the sight today when going to visit parents. i didnt see any tents. i think it might be the sort of situation where tents are ok if you pre book and arent a hippie thats going to protest about the new road or the animal research place. phone and see i guess and go to the one closer to edinburgh if its a trouble.
