Limbs. Favorites.Problems? Performance!

We all start with one limb or another. Myself they are Win&Win Challenger Craft 36 lb (second hand). Many people change to faster, more powerful limbs, or to a different brand. What, when, why and does it make that much difference. Would I be daft to go for QX-1's at 42 lbs. Would they make me a better archer, the Easton Navigator arrows have improved my shooting compared to the Easton X7's by a 30% increase in scoring and much smaller groups with 5 and 6 golds per end at times, and a 100 points per dozen at last weeks competition. Your views please.

RE: Limbs. Favorites.Problems? Performance!

The only time I've changed my limbs is when I needed to change weight - I imagine this is the reason for the majority of limb changes, either increasing or decreasing. As such, it's very difficult to compare like with like. Not many archers will change and pair of 38lb imbs for a different brand of 38s unless there was a problem witht he first pair (or they have more money than sense!)
When I changed limbs, I went from woodcore Hoyts to carbon Winacs. I had to adapt my form to get to grips with the increased weights so I couldn't say for sure whether the new limbs are any more stable, forgiving or any of the other superlatives that people tend to heap on limbs.
Being carbon, they are supposed to recover quicker; they're certainly faster but I would expact them to be - they're 10lb heavier!
They feel smooth enough but again, they're heavier than my old limbs so the increased wight is the most noticeable difference.
If I'd known that XQ1s were going to come down to £250, I might have been tempted to hang on and buy them instead, simply because they're much prettier than the Winacts!

If your limbs are straight enough to tune they can probably shoot a 1300 in the right hands. People buy expensive limbs to make themselvs feel better or more confident, they are also fractionally faster, and perhaps feel a little nice to shoot. But what you really are buying is#extra smoothness with perhaps a slightly better resistance to heat, (something which I have personally never noticed even when shooting cheap limbs). Modern limbs are a few fps faster than older designs (usually) but not enough to make any real difference to a normal persons shooting.

And don't forget to mention those of us who are shallow enough to buy limbs because it fits in with the colour scheme of the rest of the bow

I suppose it's the same principal as cars - a Lada* will get you from A to B just as well as a Porsche**, but you'd rather be seen getting from A to B in a Porsche** (and the drive would be a bit smoother and faster).
