Clout sighting

Just wondering. Anybody shot a Clout before? If so, is it possible using a Cartel 2000 sight on a KGI (45# @ 29.5") to get a sightmark, or do you have to shoot it instinctively? Any help'd be apreciated, I've got a shoot tommorrow, but nowhere to practice shooting 180yds.

When I shot recurve I had a verical allen key, with vertical markings on it, taped to my vbar. and sigted on the flag to the left of the one I was shooting at. The usual problem is that the flag is behind your hand.

At the old Ebor ground there were some very helpful electrical cables horizonally and some letters on a factory.

Tip of the arrow on a convienient tree is the usual method.

Had my first go on Wednesday. Barebow recurve. Can sight using the bottom of my grip on the flag, but have to find how to set draw lenght without a clicker and pointing upwards.

Good fun, but a long way to go and gets your arrows.

Sponge.

Most people will sight on something, but not necessarily with a sight. I have seen and heard of specialised gadgets for sighting on the flag, bit's attached to the riser or longrod, generally. But most of us 'casual clouters' look for something in the environment we can use as a reference.
For example, last time I shot clout I found I could get near the flag by alligning the second knuckle on my bow hand with the ridge of the roof of the palace servants quarters... Unfortunately there wasn't an equally convenient horizontal reference.

I did once know a guy who could aim at (or near) the flag with a recurve. But he was holding 50#+ and shooting ACEs too...

Thats what I did as well - a normal sight is pointing at the sky.

I use clout mirrors when I happen to shoot a clout round. They attach to a normal sight and allow you to aim on the flag like you would on the gold. Brilliant! I shot only 7 points behind the national champion in my first full clour round/tournament. I think it sort of shows that they work well...

They were never illegal. They aren't a prism so they aren't a problem. This is the official standing from GNAS and FITA, at any rate.

Thanks, Grant. I was told anything optical was not allowed.( mirror, lens, prism) I assume though that lenses are not allowed, as well as prisms.
Seems like a tedious sort of decision.
