Clicker drill

So, who does this? How often? How do you actually do it? Do you think it actually helps?

(For those who don't know what I mean, I'm referring to the practice of setting aside training time to learn to control the clicker. This normally takes the form of learning to draw through it smoothly and with good timing while watching the point or the target).

err, I put my clicker on back in March and just shot whenever (as I do), I remember whining about it but it isn't a problem now!! It didn't take me very many sessions to get the hang of it

I do it mainly when I'm having "issues" with control. It generally takes the form of a variety of drills -

Setup , pull through smoothly while watching the point, let down.
Setup , pull through smoothly while watching the target, let down.
Setup , pull through smoothly while watching the point, hold, shoot cleanly.
Setup , pull through smoothly while watching the target, hold, shoot cleanly.

Other drills, include shooting while watching form in a mirror or video, shooting with eyes shut, shooting for rhythm, speed shooting, etc, etc, etc, depending on weakest points

Does it help? Uncategorically yes. (for me)

I used to do clicker drill a couple of times a week for several months -- I became (even more) hopeless if I didn't practice it. I found that I had to do this when I was trying to use the Total Archery-style expansion technique. Now that I've switched to a pushing technique, it doesn't seem as necessary any more. YMMV.

Interesting. Thanks chaps.

I was taken to task over this on Sunday, and made to do it. The results have been dramatic. I'm now shooting gold size groups up to 60 yards, with only the occasional flyer.

(I say gold-sized because some bright spark put targets with soft centres on the 50 and 60 yard lines. I had to set my sight so the arrows were hitting in the blue/black at 12 o'clock).

Most of my practice time at home is now devoted to clicker drill, pretty much along the same lines that Murray uses. I'm also getting into the habit of doing a quick bit of clicker drill at any time I feel wobbly or uncertain on the line.

It takes up about 70 percent of my training, its hard to get to the range, i know im bad at it. I go through the shot sequence with a formaster with my goal for consistant clicker placement every shot.
