| String length Is there a standard string length for a bow of set length. ie if i have a 68 inch bow is the string a standard length. or does it depend on limbs..ect string type. thanks in advance.

| You can put the same string on 5 different riser/limb combinations of the same length ie 68" and get 5 different bracing heights!! Its not an exact science. Its always best to get strings made to fit your bow than order standard pre-made ones.

| If you talk to any archery shop, and tell them your type of limbs and riser, they could probably give you a string that's suitable. Quicks did this for me when I needed a spare. Some bows can't take fast-flight types of string safley, and some string types will stretch more than others. |

| Yep and when you ask they will most probably give you a 65" string for a 68" bow. That does seem to be the standard length if you do not specify the string length. Stretching is not a problem unless its excessive, you just add a few twist to take up the creep. |

| This one gets done occasionally so a search should turn something up. General rule of thumb: 3-4in shorter than the bow. I have 64in strings, giving an 8.5in brace height. As long as you get a string around this length you should be able to get a sensible bracing height by twisting. String material - dacron for wooden take down trainer-esque bows. Fastflight/Fastflight +/8125/452/TS1 for anything else.

| Another way of estimating what length of string you need is to measure the distance from from the nocks on the limb tip to the nocks on the other limb tip with the bow unstrung. It should be in the ball park. Iain.

| The AMO standard says 3 inches shorter than the bow length, but it also says to measure the string under a 100lb strain... I currently shoot strings which are about 4 inches shorter than my bow length (measured under no particular tension). I find this gives me the leeway to shoot a low or a high bracing height with my current limbs, without too many or too few twists. If you're making a string for yourself, I'd suggest starting out at bow length minus 3.5 inches, and see how many twists it needs to get to where you want it, and how it stretches in. |

| Thats great guys thanks.! but ya going to have to tell me more about this bracing height, what is it and how what when.........sorry but i only just starting out in this game. is it some thing to do with the string stretching and then a set distance between some thing else. thanks again.

| Bracing height is the distance from the nocking point on your string to the center of your button, which for a 68 inch bow is going to be in the region of 8.5 inches For a good guide on every thing archery download and have a read of http://www.archersreference.pwp.blue.../download.html authored by Murray http://www.archery-interchange.com/f...mber.php?u=197
