Stiff Arrow rest

Just come back to shooting after a back injury and I'm putting one arrow in six way over the target (nice and central though) at 80 yards. It's not the same arrow. I was shooting to a handicap of 34 so I shouldn't be missing this regularly.

Everything seems Ok in the draw and release. My arrow rest is a magnetic flipper-style (Cavalier) and the flipper action seems stiff.

Could this cause a high arrow or is it just me ?

Thanks for any advice - people looking on can't see an obvious problem.

Have you bare shaft tuned? At 18 or 30M, your bare shaft should be landing level with the fletched group. If it's landing high, your nocking point is too low, and could be part of the reason.

Which Cavalier are you using? The Free Flite Elite, or one of the others?

It's been my experience that too much top finger will cause a high shot, I've also seen a bad (low string elbow) release cause a high arrow. And of course, if you're not getting consistant head possition, that'll cause it too.

My first two places to look would be nocking point height, and top finger pressure. If you're shooting the Free Flite Elite, reverse the magnet so that it holds IN (you have to thumb it out every time you shoot, and the arrow will hold it out). If you get too much top finger pressure, your rest will come in on you......sure way to tell, and the drop away effect will clear the fletchings.....I've got it on slow motion high speed video.

Stiff Arrow rest

Sling-it -

Thanks for your time and response.

Five arrows out of six group fine but it's one wayward one and I'm not aware of any change to technique.

I have a Cavalier Freeflyte micro, not the Elite.

I've decided to buy a new one, then take your advice:

New bareshaft retune for nocking point
Get someone to watch my head position and elbow
Focus on top finger pressure.

I'm hoping it's the rest and not me!

Thanks again

The elbow might be a hard one to spot for someone else. Just pay attention, and if yuo feel like you were pulling down more with the string elbow when the arrow went high, then that could have been it. I also forgot to mention "heeling" the bow (base of palm hard into the grip), but I don't think I've seen that much height difference from heeling.

For some reason, I never did like those rests much. I think the reason was the spring wire left you with no center shot spring adjustment. If you don't want to spend the money on the elite, go with a plunger and stick on flipper rest. At least you will end up with adjustable spring tension, and a wire that will not interfere with the arrow. They make a magnetic break away flipper rest that should work great.......if the arrow comes in contact with it, it just moves out of the way. My daughters coach swears by them, but she likes her elite
