Question Faster limbs

while having a muse last night a question popped into my head..

If I were to purchase limbs that according to advertising were 7fps faster than other manufacturers of the same #age, how much would this affect my choice of arrows?

Specifically, the #age I have currently hold along with my draw length call for 660 Navs. If I were to purchase limbs that are marked the same poundage, but impart that energy more (efficiently or rapidly - I'm not sure here) would *you* factor this in if I were buying the limbs/shafts from you (wearing a retail hat)?

mmmmm.
I wouldn't of thought that 7fps would make any real difference when buying arrows. None of the companies really offer any real advantage, and the aditional speed is only minor. I wouldn't personally factor this in, but then again the easton charts are soooo far off, its just pot luck most of the time anyway.

The most important thing is how the limbs feel to shoot. minor gains of less than 10fps don't really make a difference.

You might have to go up a spine, or reduce your poundage by a couple of pounds. My 670s tuned no problems out of my 38# Focus limbs, but I've had to wind the WinExs down as far as I dare to get the 670s semi-tuned, and even then I'm wondering if I need to go to 620s, or take an inch out of the back of the 670s!

No, if I were a retailer, I'd just sell you what you asked for, because, depending on nock/point/vane choice, it might be right for you

It can make a difference to choice of arrow shaft, but only if making a jump from a particularly slow limb to a particularly fast one.

As for a retailer's point of view, from my experience on the other side of the counter (at Centreshot) is that they definitely take this into account when checking out arrow sizes in such circumstances. If a customer insists on a spine size they'll sell it to them, but only after they've checked all the parameters and discussed it with them.

My 28 1/2" 600 triples were fine with my 38# wood core border limbs, but now with winnex's of the same poundage are tuning a bit weak...?

I'd expect that, but then I'd also expect the same if you went to any other fast synthetic core limb.

Add weight and thus stiffness by changing the point/insert combo if your arrows are weak. A few FPS sounds great but as others have stated, it does not change things that much. I will change from my winacts to winex and go up 2#.The arrows should still perform.

Adding weight to the point will make the arrow behave more weakly, not stiffer.

I shoot Winex with 38lb on my fingers, 29" 620 ACE's tune very nicely. Even so I had to stiffen them a bit by adding some weight to the string using a single brass nock.

you could reduce point weight, or increase the weight at the nock end with heavier fletchings. An arrow wrap can also serve to stiffen an arrow by about 1/2 a spine.
7fps will make a difference especially if you are right on the border between spines.

There's a similar issue with compound bows. Hard cams are generally classed as a cam that generates over 300fps, but the difference between 300fps and 338fps is fairly significant to your choice of arrow, but most charts won't differentiate between the two, just classing them together as hard cams.

Sorry.....sort of hijacked your thread with a rant
