Question How often do you swap to a new string?

This kind of follows on from the question about tuning. The question & answers say almost all of it, but I'd be interested to hear your reasons.

Recurve, I change strings pehaps on an annual basis if I have had a full shooting calendar. Otherwise I go on the general look of it. Then I make another
Compound, not had a full year yet it's looking good so I'll leave it.
Longbow, hardly used it over the past 3yrs... nuff said
I did vote once a year, but at the first sign of danger, need I say more?

I think the "Whenever the current one looks too worn out/unsafe" sums it up perfectly for me

I love making strings so like to experiment and change regularly.

I have 4 good strings at a time. All are fastflight from the same manufacturer and batch. I alternate each shoot, to save on wear and tear. 16 strand outdoor and 18 strand indoor

I make strings annually. Usually when the old one gets a bit ratty and dirty. no other reason really - I've never had a string break on me, or even lost a strand.

I was wondering the other day, after removing a centre serving - the string was so round and smooth under the serving - wonder what would happen if we served the whole string then removed the serving - a very tightly bound and aerodynamic string??

Whenever it gives up the ghost or starts looking bad.

Last string dropped half an inch of brace height over 3 dozen - so I chucked it. (well, after finishing that day's shooting).

currently i only have one shootable string... my old one broke, and my other one has too many strands.

I only change when my other one looks unsafe. My last one went just suddenly went during a competition. Luckly it wasn't a really important competition, so i wasn't peanalised. I fired my last arrow of the comp and the string snapped, and i de-knocked an arrow and it was in ten.

I'm going to have to go up to 16 stand because 14 strand fast flight isn't supposed to be used for 40lbs + recurve
