| There is a section on the BCY fibers FAQ (the link to which I posted earlier) dealing with the question of a 'safe' number of strands. They seem to think that safety isn't an issue given that the single strand breaking strain is in excess of 100lbs.... They do say that going too far under the recommended size can lead to a 'harshness' of shot, as there isn't so much elasticity to absorb energy after release. They talk about 18 strands of 8125 as being common, but they're talking about compound bows... |

| I remember when I was looking at what material to use fir my recurve I found a site that gave the breaking strenght for most of the popular materials and another that recommended rather than a set number of strands ie 16 or 18 etc to actually look at the poundage you are drawing and multiply that by a set number to give you the min safe number of strands for a given poundage, taking in all varriables to your draw weight as you draw and then release. To tired after the ironman to look today but will look for the info tommorrow and post the links unless someone else has this same info and posts it before me. Hopefully it will be of help to someone.

| D75 is a good string material, stable as hell and nice to shoot.. However it is a little thicker (the 14 strand D75 to 16 FF does seem about right), if you hve a thicker serving then you need to remember to use a lower strand count in the string Edit: My new bowstring i made yesterday is 14 strand Dyneema 02 with BCY #62 XS .018. Nocks fit nicely using the larger beiter nocks... now all i need is a chance to shoot it

| Since we're on the topic of bowstrings, I was just wondering if anyone tried BCY 452x for Recurve, and how does it perform? Oh yea, about number of strands, from what I know, strings should be within a range of +/- 2 of the recommended number of strands. Less would give more speed, and more will be more forgiving. But I've seen strings with a lot less strands than the recommended and still working fine. So I'm not really sure what'll happen if you actually use too little/many strands. Hmm, someone said more strands = more noise, anyone can verify this? Oh yea, heres another company that makes strings. According to reviews from archery forums, they're one of the best. An Australian company. Haven't tried them myself, a little too pricey for me at the moment. BlingString Archery :: Home
