I'm going to avoid reading ALL of these posts and add my thoughts here.

My daughter is shooting recurve. Although she doesn't draw over, but into, she still needs a chest guard. She's shot without one a couple times, and she only put in one shot without it. It seems that any skin that wraps arround the string (digs in) is subject to slight abuse. I'd say get one. I'll also echo the clothing issue too. It will make a uniform surface to shoot from.

Hi Guys

Just so you all know, I have ordered chest guards for both me and hubby so hopefully we will be sorted out soon

Thanks for all the opinions, its good to know that this is considered an essential piece of kit.
