I have the need, the need for speed

OK,

Am about to try my first Long Metric shortly (when wrist is better)

Am shooting ok at 70m should be able to get 90m with only moving my sight in one or two hole.

However, I haven't got the fastest arrows in the world and am trying to work out how get a bit quicker arrows.

Currently, on my huge ACC 31.5" 3-39 440 arrows with some big flat vanes, 41lb on fingers on 34lb limbs.

What is going to help the distance most. Faster limbs, more draw weight (surely 41lb is enough?) lighter arrows, quicker strings, smaller flechings etc.

Sensible cost options only please, so no suggestions of Border XP40 limbs and such like.

Sponge.

I agree with GreenSteve, with that setup you should have not problem at all reaching the boss. I shot some 38lb KAP Surprise limbs the other day and hit 100y very comfortably. What length bow do you shoot, 68 or 70".

What string do you use and how many strands is there in it?

I personally don't see any advantage in using "big flat vanes" on carbon arrows, it just causes extra drag. Try changing them for some small diamond vanes or spin-wings. This gave me an extra 15 yards when I changed over.

Smaller fletchings, ACEs and an HNL Angel Majesty String really did the trick for me - there was a vast improvement in my sight marks (though not much of an improvement in the archer ).

Switch the arrows - shafts and vanes - at the same time. ACEs good, Triples cheaper (but heavier).
