Quick question about draw weights

Hi all ( first post, go easy on me! )

I normally shoot a 28lb and ive gotten used to it so on my new bow ive gone slightly higher at 32lb, which i tried at the club and was comfortable with without having to noticeable strain.

I was curious is 32lb sufficient for longer range shooting , on the 60m mark for example? i just ask as when i was using my 28lb on 30 and 40m shots, they seemed to drop quite a bit more than id imagine

thanks in advance!

V

In a word 'yes', your poundage will make the distance. We have had many a thread on this point - depending on your equipment & technique, your poundage will comfortably make the distance. I think by general consensus, the biggest issue is whether you are using carbon arrows!! You didn't say what draw length you were, not that it matters apart from you might be pulling less - again this will still go the distance to a degree

thanks for quick reply

i draw pretty much bang on 28", full 28lb measured by the club coaches for me

the arrows im using atm are carbon impact super club 30" from merlinarcherycentre.co.uk, need some diff ones for my new bow tho to match the weight, toying with easton redline's.

*edit* My current bow is a 'knight' wooden takedown, the one listed in my profile is the one thats on its way to me as we speak ( i cant wait! )

Redlines should do you very well - but be aware that many clubs do not allow the use of all-carbon arrows because of the difficulty of locating them if you miss the boss; they don't show up with a metal detector, and the whole shoot has to come to a halt while the missing arrow is located.

For about the same price you should be able to get Easton ACCs, or for a bit more, Navigators. Navigators rock!

i went ahead and ordered some redlines in the end. My local club ( Pentref Bowmen ) allow carbons on indoor and thier field/outdoor ranges so im ok on that one, have used carbons from the off. Tried alluminium and didnt like the feel or weight, plus i dont relish having to straighten them when i invariably miss

and on an EXTREMELY happy note, my new bow has arrived!!!

Winstar 2, Evo 2 limbs 70" 32lb. Just strung it and tried the draw, feels nice a little heavy but not uncomfortable find i can actually hold it steadier than the 28 i have which is odd

cant wait to get to the club and attempt to tune it!
