| First Recurve I'm heading out this weekend to get my first bow. If I really push my finances I can make it up to £200 but I've seen the Samick Polaris Wooden Take-Down Bow at only £60 for the riser and limbs. How much difference is there for a beginner between something like the Polaris and perhaps a KAP WINSTAR II and associated limbs. I'm aware there will be a difference but what is it and will it be noticable for the first 6months-year of me shooting? Richard. | |||||||||||||

Hi there, The only advice I can give you is try things out at the shop, and decide what feels right. I tried cheap and expensive, and actually preferred the cheap for feel, and got it. I've not tried any wooden stuff aside from our club trainer bow, but the winstar II is a great first riser, you may have read or seen me going on about how happy I am with mine. I would say to wait a little while longer if you want to get a bow and some arrows for that strength bow. There are lots of little bits to put on a bow that soon pile up and push the budget. the cheapest bows out there will soon be outgrown, and after a while you'll want something else, so if you have the option in the mean time to use club equipment and save up a little more, I'd advise to do that. Hope that helps!

| My problem is the club I'm joining due to some problems in the past doesn't lend out any equipment so if I want to shoot I have to buy. .....and I really want to shoot. | |||||||||||||

If you can handle 24/26lbs, there are some 30lb challenger limbs in the Archer's Mart, unless they've been bought, going for only 50 quid! That'll save you some money for a start. Always worth a look. Secondly, you'll need some arrows. Most places will help you later on, if you give them the poundage and size of bow (medium limbs on a 25" riser is 68", Large is 70"). Again, hope that helps!

| Weylund, go for the Winstar 11, believe me, it's the best bow in it's price range and takes international fit limbs. It comes with a wooden grip, is poundage and limb L/R adjustable and is a joy to set up and tune even with the cheapest Challenger limbs. | |||||||||||||||||

| I agree on the winstar 2 i've got the older striker/stinger/toutal version and went back to it after an awful outdoor season with my bargain S3 handle. Immediate improvement on my groupings and score. Still fancy splashing out on the new version as it looks and feel's good for a beginner/intermediate handle.

| One of the members at my club (GOA Dan) is also selling some 26lbs Samick Universals on the Archers Mart too - well worth a look.
