Indoor vanes

Now that the indoor season is nearly here what size fletchings do people use. Is it worth replacing outdoor vanes with longer vanes and do longer vanes stabilise the arrow quicker?

RE: Indoor vanes

Reports from Marcus and a few others on the Saggi BB reckon the Quickspins would be ideal for indoor, but drop off in performance over longer distances.

Also the 4" vanes tend to cause clearance problems with riser where the rest - shelf height is fairly low.

This was confirmed by one of the archers at Adel yesterday, he claimed greatly improved groupuing indoors, but had a few clearance problems.

See the post in Archery Equipment ref Quickspins.

RE: Indoor vanes

I've heard that 4" Quckspins are the way to go indoors.

However I know a few people that have had clearance problems using the vanes. A friend of mine damaged his Win & Win arrow rest using the Quickspin 4" vanes, so has#moved to a wrap around rest(Spigarelli Zero Tolerance) and has no clearance problems now.

I use 4" feathers (colour co-ordinated of course, which gives more points )#and they seem to work great for me. I also use the Win & Win arrow rest, but I think with the feathers being so soft it just glides on by without getting stuck.

RE: Indoor vanes

I use a zero tolerance Spigarelli arrow rest on my W&W winact riser and limb set up. I would really like to use 4" quickspins indoors on my X7's. i want to keep my navigators intact for outdoors. i will weight the nib points with lead and hotglue. chopped and weighed before melting. What riser does your friend have with the neccesary clearance? Has his scores improved due to the quickspins. What is his arrow setup?

Ha You're not kidding :-)

To tell the truth I have no idea what bow he's using, never really taken any notice...doh! He uses Platinum Plus arrows for indoors and his groups have improved a great deal since swapping to 4" quickspins and using the spigarelli rest.

I may have to give the Quickspins a go on my X7's

RE: Indoor vanes

When I bother to change vanes for indoor I use 2 13/16" spin wings (ACC arrows).

RE: Indoor vanes

Changing vanes will highly depend on the arrows you shoot.
As for myself, I shoot ACE's. They stabilise very quickly and thus don't need long vanes for short ranges.

I have just bought Bjorn 3" low profile fletchings from Chiltern to put on my X7's. Have yet to shoot them.
