draw length

Is it possible to work out exactly ones draw length by using a clicker and a(for example) 30" arrow? When the clicker clicks is it possible to measure firstly the length of the arrow and secondly subtracting the point on the bow where the clicker is situated, such as on the small metal extension piece or a point on the riser? I was initially undecided about this but now Im not so sure. Many thanks.

If you measure the arrow and then subtract the distance from the clicker to the arrow rest, you could say that what is left is your draw length. That would assume that the arrow rest was directly above the throat of the grip, which it often is. The method works so long as the clicker is set in the right place to begin with. The danger can be that the archer will draw to the clicker even if it is set in the wrong place.

Almost right Geoff, AMO draw length is measured to 1.75" beyond the throat of the grip.

When at full draw and properly in line the end of the arrow shaft should be appx 1 inch beyond the button/arrow rest. Clicker should then be set to cover about 2mm of the arrow point. Try out a few different length arrows if you have them lying around or can borrow some. But as always there are exceptions to this......

In my book that is arrow lenght not draw lenght. If you fit a broad head tip you will find that you need more than plus 1.75 ". Draw lenght is measured to the throat of the bow.

After reading the original post from Hombre again none of us have actually answered his question although Field Archer is correct on how to measure draw length. Probably easiest to mark a very long arrow in 1/4 inch increments and have somebody check the arrow length at full draw in relation to the back of the riser which is usually pretty close to AMO draw length. Next time I will read the post properly before I spout out a bunch of nonsense

that will do it every time but if you want to use a clicker on the riser then forget about AMO Arrow lenght.
