| Samick Extreme vs. Border TXB Hi All, I would like to gather opinions on the above two sets of limbs. I have just bought a 'new' (thanks munchkin!) riser - a sebastien flute - as I have shot a stylist for the last 4 years and wanted to 'up' my poundage and try something with ILF. I was fairly well set on the extremes only because I have heard good reports and 2 or 3 people in my club are shooting them and are very positive about their performance. However I contacted a local dealer who said he didn't stock extremes, but had a pair of border txb's. I tried them and thought they were very smooth and very fast. The guy in the shop put a chrono on the bow and with a very mixed batch of 'shop' arrows I was shooting consistantly at 200+fps. Now I don't know how fast my stylist is, but this felt like a totally different ball game! At the moment the borders have the vote, but I would like to try the samicks. As far as I can determine, the borders are wood and carbon whereas the extremes are carbon/foam(?) As ever, though, I am always grateful for experiences of AIUK members, I know that many of you now shoot extremes and many borders. I suspect that many will tell me they are totally different limbs and can't be compared! Let me know what you think. Many thanks. JohnnyB | |||||||||||||

| Off the top of my head I think the TXB's are Carbon/Wood, thus making them over priced if they're going for more than £200. TXS and TXG's are carbon foam and I love mine and am loathe to part with them. I was never much of a fan of the border wood core stuff but their new stuff (HexIV and the carbon foam limbs) are really nice and don't stack up to about 32in...

| Well the choice between hand crafted low tech excellence (actually more performance from wood core than any foam cored stuff out there), and mass produced hi tech sh#te, go for quality and performance, Border all the way..you won't regret it, Borders old EP limb 12 year + old design still out performs the Win & Win Winex and Hoyts M1 carbon foam limb, and their TX stuff remains unmatched in speed and stability.

| Nothing particularly wrong with woodcore limbs. Masters were about the fastest limbs around when they came out. Winacts probably have taken more gold medals than any other single limb in recent years. Foam isn't necessarily faster. Or better. That said, an MB I trust tried Extremes just recently and described them as 'amazingly smooth' - he currently shoots G3s and is thinking about seriously trying out some Extremes now... | |||||||||||||

| Both are good limbs in my experience, but my vote goes for the samick limbs. I shoot 70" at 42# at 199fps with a spread of only 0.75fps. This is the secret I believe. This proved to be more consistant then the G3's, Win&Win and the border for that matter. This combo has given me a number of local, provintial and national records.

| Indecision rules! Well I have tried both now BUT it posed another question; I shot maybe for an hour on one night and then half an hour (with my own arrows) another night with the one set of limbs and got a good idea of how well they shot; then I tried the others in a different shop and was allowed about 18 arrows. The reason stated was that the limbs would look 'marked' and therefore be unsaleable,as new, if I used them too much! I reckon that if you are spending that sort of money on kit (OK it's not a fortune but not insignificant), then you should be allowed to feel comfortable with your intended purchase. At the moment my preference is for the set that I've spent more time with. Shops and limbs omitted to protect the not so innocent. ![]() | |||||||||||||

| In fairness to the shops - it is true, some setups will mark the limbs badly and you (and probably I) would refuse to buy a set of limbs that looked second hand (at full price anyway!). However, the shops should equip themselves with the necessary's to allow you to shoot the limbs you want to try without damage. I recently tried Samick Extremes and W&W Winex at Bowsports. It was a battle to do this but I had to do some pretty serious talking to convince them that I was a serious buyer - not just out for a play or someone who was going to go off and buy the limbs elsewhere/online/cheaper. I also padded up my riser with old tab leather to prove that I was serious (I bought the Extremes BTW) ... so while I'd agree some of the shops are getting silly- if they won't let you try, don't shop there. You also need to blame the Saturday morning equipment warriors who go into local shops, waste a lot of staff time just so that they can say they have shot product X. Saddos If you want it buy it As for the Extremes well, I love the feel of them but I am finding them very unforgiving at my drawlength (~31.5" off a 70" bow) so I'm currently back on my aged G3s. My arrows are a little stiff and the G3s seem to wear that better. Can't comment on the Borders - haven't found a set of Borders I really liked since a set of 71" with 70" tiller I tried in 1992. (ie wood/glass) YMMV good luck Stretch | |||||||||||||

| Stretch, I think you are right, I don't expect each shop to have all the combinations of possible limb weight and length, but I have spent an awful amount of money over many years, bought my daughter a new winact riser and limbs last month, and all sorts of kit from the same shop since I started and just expected a better 'test drive' than I got! ![]() | |||||||||||||
