Archery Specific Fitness Training

I was wondering what the best way of getting fitness levels up for Recurve shooting was, besides shooting every night of the week, and i figured you guys would know what the best way would be.

The three areas i feel need improving are Core strength, Cardio-Vascular and Upper-body

Planks for core stability and strength

CV work is hit and miss really as although you'll improve your cardio fitness, without resistance training you'll also lose muscle mass as your using the energy that your body has put aside for maintaining muscle.

The book Total Archery also covers the weight training side

I have also found that Archery Strong also works for me especially as it is a once a week program.

stamina building (reversals with dynaband around string and grip for more draw weight) at top of list, then shooting form, then cardio

If you join a gym or health club chances are you will get assessed and given a training plan. If they have knowledgable staff/instructors that know what they are doing they can set you up with appropriate archery related exercises. Take advantage of it cause that is what you are paying for. I went down that route last winter and the results were pretty positive. Pitty I lost it all over the summer months working pretty much 7 days per week 16hrs per day and very little time for archery let alone exercise. I am trying to claw it back again this winter.

You forgot to mention the Fish 'n' chips to help build body mass and therfore greater stability.
