and it's a well known fact that if you use excessively light arrows you might as well be dry firing your bow as the energy can't "absorbed" fully by the arrow alone.

| Exactly right IMO and proven many times over with my own set up. |

All I will say however is that I treat the Easton spine charts as a rough guide, and given the number of other threads I have seen this mentioned in, so do many other people. I would certainly not feel happy basing an argument on the Easton spine charts alone. No disagreement from me here. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Reduce vibration, especialy on equipment such as sights. Washers on all rods. Doinkers on the ends of rods and limb savers on the limbs. heavy arrows, heavy (18 strand) string. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| When using the Easton Charts you will not be too far from the correct spine but in most cases it will throw up two options: a weaker and a stiffer spined shaft. The only way to find the best one for you is to shoot and test both for all the reasons mentioned in previous posts. With regards to dry firing and excessive noise it is important to ensure that which ever arrow you select the overall weight of the arrow is above the AMO guidelines. I think this is it: AMO standards - Arrows must meet Archery Manufacturer's Organization standard of six (6) grains per pound of peak draw weight. |

| My Marksman is almost silent on firing, but i have shot comps were the person shooting behind you does have a bow that sounds like a gun going off. most of our club have quietish bows and at some of the summer comps i noticed the diffrence and it was distracting. The last time i heard some of the noises i heard this summer was a fellow archers bow failure at busa indoors, my longbow failing at the busa outdoors, and our club longbow failing behind me on the line, so it does make you a bit nervous with the sound some bows make | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| I shoot a KG Kudos with keiths brilliant Apex Limbs but the other week I had a problem the first sign of this problem had been droping sight marks for several weeks. But a couplle of weeks ago the tone of the bow totaly changed and lines started to appear in the top limb. This bow with these limbs was never quite, but the power up to that time was always good. what I am trying to say is set your bow up to suit you , shoot it and get used to it and if the tone of your bow changes find the reason for it. PS I took my bow back to KG and they changed the limbs straight away with no quams at all. I now have a 40lbs pair of limbs and the tone off the bow is totally different. Keith and Christenes service is supperb and there customer care cannot be faulted.

| Quote "if the tone of your bow changes find the reason for it." Certainly agree with your comment Nick. I find that I'm subconsiously listening to my bow and I notice as soon as the 'usual' sound changes. Bit like cars really. My Merlin Max stated to make a slightly different sound a couple of years ago and I couldn't see anything obviously wrong. Next time shooting, I noticed a crack in one of the limbs. Chris at Merlin fitted me up with some newer style limbs - brilliant service! Robin | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
