Loud bows Vs Quiet bows,

I have followed a few posts and various threads on the interchange and it would seem many are obsessed with having quiet bows may I ask why? Yes I'm aware about brace height requirements but you're just listening for clean detachment of arrows from string for that. I couldn't give a flying flip about how noisy my bow was as long as it puts the arrows in the middle.

I agree, I can't understand the obsession with quietness but then again I'm not a tinkerer. I just point and shoot and hope it hits gold!

When you've shot a bow that sounds like a bag of hammers being dropped, and then shot a bow which is nice and quiet, you'll know why...

More sound = less energy imparted to the arrow = more shock in the arm/shoulder region = uncomfortable.

I like to hear my bow sing quietly...

I get no shock transmission as I don't have any contact with the bow when the limbs bottom out due to correct use of a bow sling!
More sound = lighter arrows going faster than heavy ones.I'm in one of those moods!

Talking

If you are happy with the way you shoot and your scores are good it doesnt matter(my revolution just happens to be a quiet bow). I am a tinkerer and will try anything to beat my pb so if its a noisy bow that does it a noisy bow it is

Providing the noise is not due to a too low or too high bracing height where damage can be done to the limbs who cares what it sounds like if your arrows go in the middle. There are no points for style and grace in this sport.

I tend to work on the theory that if its noisy, there is likely to be something wrong with it.

All the bows that I have shot have always been very quiet when properly tuned, nothing wrattling or banging, and no more than necessary vibration.
More noise = more vibration. This must be coming from somewhere.

Kae.

A fair point, the key being no more vibration than necessary, but for many the noise and reason for it is masked by adding bits of rubber and the real cause is never sorted out, so a quiet bow might not always be the most efficient.

I've always thought that a quiet bow (not 'artificially' quiet with the use of limb savers) was a well tuned and efficient bow. Low noise also means low vibration and a smoother shot. Dont know if it makes a big difference to accuracy, but a smooth, quiet bow is far nicer to shoot.
