| Finger/Tab issue... Not been able to shoot for the past couple of weeks due to our venue being closed for Crimbo/New Year, but I have been doing some reverals at home. Something has been annoying though. After a few draws, the fingers on my draw hand start to get sore and rather red. I have narrowed the problem down to 3 things: 1) Not been shooting too long, and fingers need toughening up 2) Poor form causing excees pressure on fingers 3) Not enough protection from finger tab Plan on speaking to the coach on tuesday about it, but thought I would ask you knowledgable chaps/chapettes first. Ta Alistair

| sounds like the material on your finger tab may be too short ![]()

If you are just holding the bow at full draw for 30 sec as per exercise on the KSL site care is needed to ensure that your fingers have very good protection I understand that prolonged excess pressure on the finger joints can cause longterm problems to the ligaments. I tend to do one or two then give it a 2/3min rest to allow the fingers to recover but I am no doctor and hope that this works also I only do this excersise occasionally not everyday to remind myself about correct line the rest of the time I use the foremaster.

| I have been holding at full draw for the count of 10 then coming down, rest for 10-20 seconds then repeat. After maybe 3 or 4 reps, my fingers start to get sore and red, making it harder to hold for 10. My initial feeling is that my fingers are just not used to holding about 36# draw for a 10 count. ![]()

| Are you hooking the string into the finger (where it bends) or are you holding it on the pad of your finger tips ? if the latter try hooking it deeper if the former may find your tab material is a bit thinin which case go for a slightly thicker backing

So that I understand, you are using the foremaster but holding the string while at full draw for 10 sec and then come down again, rest then repeat while having the foremaster connected to your elbow. If this is the case why? ![]()

I am generally holding on the pads of my fingers. I was finding that it gave me a cleaner release.

| Holding on the pads requires more effort than holding in the creases. The mechanical advantage is against you if you like. A very thick tab material will keep the string further away from the creases than a thinner one. It will feel comfortable in one sense but it requires more effort to hold the string back.(mechanical disadvantage at work again.) Sore fingers, when shooting, comes from pressure in small areas or friction where the finger touches the nock. If one finger does little or no work, the other two are subjected to a 50% increase. | |||||||||||
